Professor Newmann is easily one of the best professors I've ever had at VCU. If you ever get the chance to take a class with him do not miss out on the opportunity!! He's incredibly understanding and reasonable plus his lectures are interesting. He is very clear in what he expects from his students and he is very engaging.

LOVE this professor; really funny guy & actually cares about students. Can go on a tangent sometimes but it makes the class more interesting. The tests are essay questions but you can use notes so they aren't too bad. The huge project is an executive summary but he requires you to turn in a rough draft & he'll tell you how to perfect the final

Two essay exams, one 2 pg research with 5 pg pp. I did great on the exam bc i took notes during lectures, of his words not the content. Lenient with deadlines just need to ask, passionate ab his work, adapted great to covid!

Not shy about his opinions. A pretty good person, really diligent about making sure all his students have what they need, getting stuff back on time, etc., just really responsible in that sense. Class was a pretty straightforward listen to lectures, take notes on it kind of deal. Tests were long essays. Grading was a little unclear but not too bad.

The best professor I have ever taken at VCU. His lectures are funny and he keeps things interesting. His tests are lengthy (with three short answers and usually two essay questions) but if you go to class and take good notes, then the tests will be a breeze. GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS! He gives really good feedback, especially for the final paper.

Newman gives very great informational lectures. He knows a lot about the subject of Terrorism so you'll definitely learn many things during the semester. My only gripe with him is that he is a very tough grader. He does not hesitate to mark off points on any assignment turned in. Other than that the class if great and he's a nice guy.

Newmann is the nicest professor I have ever taken but he is a very tough grader. His syllabus has not changed since he started teaching in 1992 so hes very old school. 2 tests and an essay. very very tough grader. If you don't do EXACTLY as he wants then he will deduct major points. Extremely nice guy though and is a genius.

Newmann is awesome and has been at VCU for ages. His lectures are the best and he makes any content very fascinating. He has a strong liberal bias and often talks negatively about conservatives, which could be good or bad depending on your views. He is accessible and is ready to help you succeed as long as you show interest to do your best.

Inspiring, kind, brilliant, and so knowledgeable about Asian politics! Go to lectures, take notes, and be interested and you will do great. There is one long/hard paper and you must reach the page limit or major points deducted. Tests are short answer + essay question, and are easy if you pay attention to the super interesting lectures.

Great professor, Really makes learning interesting and fun and the course isn't too hard it's more about the basic over all aspect of International Relations and the tests and exams are pretty easy too as long as you go to class and as long as you study and understand the basic concepts.

Dr. Newmann is the type of professor you do not see at VCU every day. He's respectful, funny, and has an outgoing personality. Personally, for me, this subject is so boring, but he makes it so easy to understand and enjoyable to learn. There are one map quiz and 3 exams. you have to do is go to every lecture and take detailed notes.

Professor Newmann is absolutely fantastic! Very knowledgable and makes lectures interesting! The only grades for this class are a map quiz and 3 tests including the final, so you have to study for those. I personally didn't use the textbooks, I just made sure I knew all the terms and concepts on the study guides.

Seriously the best professor in the whole Political Science department. Some of the best lectures I've attended at this school. He's harsh with grading, but fair. He has high standards but gives a lot of helpful feedback for improvement. Get ready to pay real attention and give some effort, but you'll get a lot out of his classes if you do.

I adore Professor Newmann. His class is one I look forward to attending, because even though PoliSci isn't my favorite, the way he lectures is absolutely captivating. He is responsive to questions and the tests are pretty close to what you learn from lectures and books. If you take really good notes and pay attention, you won't need the books.

The sweetest man Ive ever met. Dr. Newmann really is the best kind of professor. Hes a great lecturer, answers any questions you may have, and is just so kind. The trick to doing well on his tests? Pretend he doesnt know anything and write down everything you know. His tests are short answer with an essay portion, so doing this is vital for an A

Prof. Newmann is really nice and caring! He really wants you to succeed, however, he doesnt really tell you how. I enjoyed the class and learned a lot but the exams... Even though I would put verbatim what he taught us in class (they were essay form), Id still get a low grade. In short, I never knew what he wanted and hes a tough grader. Nice tho

Professor Newmann is my favorite poli sci professor I have had at VCU. He is extremely smart and poignant. If you go to the lectures and take thorough notes, you'll do well. He doesn't use blackboard but all the exams and papers are thoroughly explained. Follow his instructions and you'll get a good grade & make sure you're good at citing sources.

Professor Newmann is a moderately good professor, the assignments won't break your back ;however, the grading criteria is all over the place and it is difficult to get an A. Map Quiz, Two Tests, A group Presentation, and a 2 Page paper! Not hard material but impossible to get an A.
