Comment:
Moskal cancelled class roughly 50% of the time and had incredibly unclear expectations of what she wanted out of her students. She gave letter grades for each paper and was extremely harsh, stating she started everyone at a C and made them prove otherwise, without providing a clear explanation of what she wanted on the paper... Was slow to grade.

Comment:
I ignored the harsh reviews for this prof because the class sounded fun, but, all the prior reviews are 100% accurate. I didn't feel supported, and I was trying to teach myself the material most of the time. Yet, Prof Moskal expected exceptional work while only providing us minimal guidance. I was confused, and my confidence in writing faltered.

I took this online during Covid. There were supposed to be weekly lectures and we had like three. Always had excuses to not meet or not grade anything. Said a 50% was a C but it wasn't. Harshest grader I've ever had. 4 papers each worth 50%. Even if you give 100% and take her feedback your grade won't change. She gives out C's like candy. DONT TAKE

I took this course online and it was terrible. I could tell Prof Moskal had a lot of valuable insight and intelligence, but it didn't translate in the format she chose for her class. She took a very long time to grade and only met over Zoom a couple of times. I don't recommend taking her online (but she might be good in person).

Please, don't listen to the good reviews on this professor. Not if you want your experience at UNC to be a successful one. I took this class as a joke, knowing it was going to be garbage, and had a great time watching the trainwreck. She didn't give any lectures; her grading was weeks late for each assignment; our final grades were broken on sakai.

Comment:
The circumstances of this semester were not ideal but Professor Moskal made little to no effort running the class while still expecting the same motivation from her students. Her rare lectures are repetitive, monotonous and never adapted to the students' aptitudes. Her attempts at fixing the students' frustrations were also too little too late.

She is very disorganized and an extremely tough grader. If you are looking for a good GEN-ED to take, don't take this one. A PASS/FAIL will most likely be the outcome. She will not explain material well and you'll be hurt by it in the end. Essays are very tuff. The only thing easy about her class were the free writes. Look for a different class.

I love Professor Moskal. I had her class during the COVID pandemic, so we were all virtual asynchronous. She's a deeply insightful person, really knows her stuff, and challenges us to see deeper into our subject matter. It's a challenge, but it's profitable - that's why we're at UNC. I gladly recommend her. A kind person, and a great teacher.

Moskal is an incredibly tough grader & her class is very confusing to follow. She assigns papers that build off of each other but is unable to grade them before the next is due. She asks for forgiveness in her lack of effort, fairly blaming it on the current pandemic, yet provides no relief to students in return. Way too hard for a 100 level class.

She has yet to have given us a semester, and we are over halfway done. When assignments are given, your grades are essentially random, only based upon how she felt about your first impression upon her. Luckily, she does not grade below a D for anything, so if you pass/fail, you could get free credit hours! She has no idea how to be a professor.

She literally switched the curriculum entirely halfway through the semester (to something we did not sign up for). Dr. Moskal is completely disorganized and her assignments are so vague and confusing. The lectures are hardly meaningful. I learned nothing from this class that I expected to. Just find another professor.

Dr. Moskal is obviously a very caring person. Her lectures can be hard to understand, especially because she talks a bit more quietly than most professors I've had. She seems all over the place, and her assignments can be a little vague. But overall not really that difficult, and she tends to each student separately. TLDR; caring, but disorganized

Professor Moskal was the best professor I have ever had. lectures were so brilliant. I have never learned as much as I have in the classes I have taken with her. Some group discussions which was cool that she wanted our input. Also lots of lecturing which was incredible as she ties in philosophy history and literature all together really well.

LITERALLY the worst teacher I've ever had. She is extremely pretentious and condescending and seems to not care about her students succeeding. Unable to take any suggestions or criticism, and grades assignments ridiculously. DO NOT TAKE

Terrible professor. I didn't believe the negative ratings about her, and I really regret it. She managed to make a class about Jane Austen awful. She lectured about very very specific things unrelated to the readings, and then gave incredibly detailed quizzes about them. Gave 2 papers worth 60% of the grade. Definitely would NOT recommend.

I took this class with her and it was way more difficult that I thought. I am not an ENGL major, & only took it for gen ed requirement. I do not recommend that unless this is really ur thing. Quizzes on the books were detail-oriented and specific. Papers were graded harshly and she had very high expectations. She is caring tho & it was interesting

She's a pretty nice person, but a little quirky and unorganized a lot of time. I didn't think she graded fairly and I didn't really know what she wanted me to do when we wrote papers. The exams weren't too bad though. Probably wouldn't take again.

Professor Moskal was the best teacher I have ever had. Inspirational lectures, unbelievably rewarding class experience. Class size was small which made the vibe that much more intimate. Our final exam was one of the most engaging group discussion's I've ever had.

I adored Professor Moskal. She speaks very quietly, but there is probably no one who knows as much about the Regency as Professor Moskal does. Very quirky and I learned a ton. Don't take if reading isn't your thing, but it was one of the most rewarding classes I've taken so far.

Please for the love of all things that are good in this world do not take a class with her. If you value your sanity, you will listen to me and avoid her at all costs. Her grading and paper expectations are ridiculous, she's incredibly close minded, and I couldn't hear half of the things she said. Good luck if you sign up to take a class with her.
