Dr. Maria is extremely passionate about volcanoes. His lectures are long and thorough. There is a lot of reading to do, a few papers for the course, and some multiple choice assignments. The tests can be hard so be sure to do the readings and study often.

He is extremely kind and very helpful. He responds to email quickly and is accessible outside of class. The tests are a little difficult, but they pretty much follow the lectures, and he gives a review sheet before each test. He is very knowledgeable and passionate about geology - especially when magma is concerned. I highly recommend this class.

Comment:
Attendance is not mandatory, but lectures are essential to getting a good grade unless you read the textbook in your free time. He cares about his students very much and has flexible office hours and is always available to talk. Tests are main part of the grade, but between extra credit and the SI the class does not require much outside work.

Anton Maria is one of the worst professors I have had. He clicks through the power points so fast that you do not have any time to write. His lectures are so boring and he pauses so much between when he is talking. His lectures are boring due to unenthusiastic monotone voice he uses through his lecture. I will say that his lab is fun. NO CAP!

Dr. Maria is well organized and gives amazing lectures. He's super nice and loves helping out students. He uses mastering Oceanography online materials for homework grades. As long as you read the material and study the notes, it is an easy A. I thoroughly enjoyed his class!

I am not a science major so the subject matter was of little interest to me. However, Dr Maria is a good teacher. He is humble, helpful, and has a nice sense of humor. Tests are VERY hard, but he does make good study guides before each test to help prepare. Sometimes proceeds a little fast through the powerpoint slides before I could copy notes.

Very willing to help his students, and has a very uncanny sense of humor- though that is good thing. He tends to make his notes interesting with unexpected remarks and witticisms that can make the whole class laugh a bit. If you are not sure but want to give Geology a try, go with this guy!

I really struggled with this class at the beginning of the semester, but Tony is really helpful and wants everyone to learn. The textbook is terrible, I never used it. His test reviews he posts online are really helpful for tests, as are the SI sessions. If you're struggling, don't be afraid to talk to Tony about it. He's nice and cares a lot.

Awesome teacher, he is very clear in his lecture, but can go through his power point slides a little too quickly. Very willing to help at anytime. His passion for Geology really comes through, especially in the volcano section, and makes the class more enjoyable. His tests are pretty straight forward and most of the test is multiple choice.

He's a good teacher, but the class is really boring and hard to study for because he doesn't post notes. We got off subject A LOT. I probably would have done a lot better if I could have followed along with notes.

The class is hard and Dr. Maria often doesn't make the material completely clear. Tests are very difficult, homework is pretty easy, and quizzes are simple. He is a nice guy, and you can tell he is very passionate about the subjects covered.

Dr. Maria is definitely one of the kindest professors at USI. He engages geology majors and non-geo majors alike and made the class very interesting. The subject matter is slightly difficult but with a good amount of studying you'll get an A. It helps to actually be interested in earth science before you take geo courses.

Don't take him I heard Geology was supposed to be easy I soon found out otherwise I dropped after the first test after he announced that the class average was 67% on our first test and that he has had much worse Though it sucked losing 4 credit hrs it was worth it after I found out that by the end of the class 85% were getting a D or lower.

I had him for volcanoes class. He takes the material very seriously. It is an interesting class, but hard for a 100 level class. If you are thinking you will get a good grade even if you don't study... think again! He is very nice though and you will learn a lot from him. Good professor at USI, just rather difficult. I got a B+ and studied a lot.
