Super easy professor. Her lectures are mostly verbal but she does have an outline with bolded words that she'll used on the tests as fill in the blanks. Recommends the textbook (its like $5), but I never used it. Easy tests. One project thats fairly easy. Gives a couple of extra credit opportunities. Easy A if you pay attention during class.

So, expect to correct her exams since many of the questions are either incomplete or were not in the study "footnotes'guide. Talk about being detailed since she cant even get her own exams right. This class if for you if you love taking notes over an Overhead projector as she sits and lectures in her quite voice, while you pass out from boredom

She's a soft-spoken old lady but she's extremely old fashioned and conservative. She's also very impersonal, ridiculed people for their name first day of class and hates to see students succeed. She grades harsh & failed me & many others for no good reason, but when I retook the class with a different professor I got an A easy. Would not recommend.

HICKLING IS A NICE AND SWEET PROFESSOR BUT THE WAY SHE TEACHES CLASS IS BORING. SHE HAS YOU COPY DOWN NOTES WHILE SHE TRIES TO TEACH AND ITS HARD TO LISTEN TO HER BC HER SOFT VOICE. UNLESS YOU KNOW YOUR HISTORY I WOULDN'T RECOMMEND THIS CLASS. HER TESTS ARE SOOO HARD TOO.

It is sad to me that so many people have given her a bad review. I think she is a great teacher and she will help you on anything if you email her or talk to her after class. You just have to take the initiative and you'll do fine. And she doesn't yell at you, and why would you miss 3 classes? This is college people, not high school!

She doesn't yell at you for talking in class lol what? She doesn't like it tho. Tests are easy if you take DETAILED notes. Each test has an in class essay part which you prepare for at home. Grades essays hard, very hard. Can't miss 3 classes or dropped. Overall, take detailed notes from lecture&study, prewrite/practice your essay = A.

Literally YELLS at you in class because she can't stand ONE whisper. Her exams are SO random. The essay exams are also graded stupidly..she thinks she's an english teacher. Only good thing is the extra credit, which prevented me from getting a B. 3 exams w/ 2 essays for each one and w/ maps, & one research paper which is also graded stupidly hard

If you want to feel like your still in high school, she is the teacher for you. Her tests are super easy, but watch out on the essays, she grades them ridiculously hard. Also her lectures are stupid she runs off on some tangent of some inconsequential thing for the longest time, we never even finished the course material because she ran on too much

Her attendance policy is ridiculous, if you miss three classes she will kick you out of class. She grades extremely hard on her essays but tests and notes are pretty simple.

She really knows her stuff, so it made the lectures more enjoyable. The tests are all stuff she mentioned in class, so take notes or skim the book using the outlines she gives. I have terrible memory so the test were kinda hard for me, only real downside, is the research paper but I still got an A in the class even though I thought I would get a B.

A lot of people seem to find her boring, but I don't. On the other hand, I like history, so that might have something to do with it. There IS a research paper, which if I'd seen it mentioned on here prior to signing up for her class, I'd have thought twice. I try to avoid classes with papers. Only hurts me in the long run, I know, but I hate em.

So, almost everyday you take notes and listen to her lecture. It helps with the tests, but it just feels like something is missing. She is a very nice lady though, and genuinely cares for each of her students. Tests can be tricky because there is a TON of material, but most of it you should already know a little bit about. She is a good teacher.

Hickling is a really nice professor whose class is pretty straightforward, not really that exciting. The class is exam and 1 project based. ALL 3 EXAMS ARE OUTLINE based and the essay is given to you before. Buy the Sources book and photocopy the maps from the 2nd book-Don't buy it. I liked her and think the overall class was not that bad :)

She is very nice and tries to make it fun. Exams are half essay which is easy, and half short answer which is tricky. Fill in the blank comes from lecture so you need to memorize what she puts on the board. No homework but one research project.
