Probably the worst professor I've ever had the pleasure of having for a lab. This is the type of teacher that will make people HATE the subject if they never took it. Labs are incredibly frustrating, with excessive amount of work both on and off lab times, and the plethora of typos in the worksheets doesn't help either. Do yourself a favor and SKIP

Just really annoying. He doesn't know how to spell and he is the head of the department, so he creates the labs and assignments but doesnt spell anything correctly on those. He is also really boring in class and goes off topic all the time.

Professor Thorpe is a very smart and nice guy but not the best professor at all. His tests are so much harder than all of the other Bio classes, and your grade is heavily based on the tests. His notes are just slides and he doesn't do a very good job of explaining them. If you are not good at learning on your own I do not recommend taking his class

Terrible professor, holds us past time in lab and assigns extremely confusing material. I feel like he expects us to know the entire class before ever being taught. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASSES

Honestly, he's very sweet. Take him if you can, you won't regret it. He challenges you, but that should be expected; it's a college course.

I had Thorpe for lab. He is a great guy and is very funny, and definitely knows what he is talking about. However, he is extremely disorganized and never answers emails. Because he wrote the manual, he doesn't like to hear questions. We always have way more homework for next lab than any other sections even though they're supposed to be the same.

Professor Thorpe is a good guy and definitely knows A LOT about Biology. He is very smart but sometimes too smart to clearly teach the material. His lectures get off topic sometimes with his stories or quirky comments. Its definitely possible to do well in his class but you have to work for it. Tough exams and lengthy homework assignments.

Just reads over power points and doesn't go into depth unless he is asked certain questions. Lecture is boring. quizzes are all open book/ note but tests are hard and questions are worded weirdly. Not my favorite Prof. or class.

Professor is a really good teacher he knows the material really well but this is a very hard class. He tries to balance grades out with homework online but there are not a lot of grades for his class to really make a big difference. He tries to make lecture interesting overall I thought he was a good teacher just a hard course in general.

I had Thorpe for my BIO 120 lab. I liked Thorpe overall, and there were plenty of chances to do well. There were quizzes at the start of every class period to review last weeks material and he answered questions very clearly. He helps with the big paper that is a large portion of your grade. It was a tough course, so there is a decent work load.

Prof Thorpe knows the material well. He provides plenty of homework opportunities to help offset some of the tests. He tells you specifically what to study and how many questions from each chapter will be on the test. Bio 120 isn't meant to be an easy course, however, I believe that Prof. Thorpe makes it a lot more bearable for a lot of people.

He is not a bad professor. His lectures are long and based solely on the text book. If good notes are taken, and online flash cards/ practice questions are used for test prep. You should have no problem succeeding in his class.

I'm pretty back and forth about Thorpe. He got better as the semester progressed. He's friendly. At the beginning I was super confused. His lab was very difficult, his lecture was okay. The final was the easiest ever, because half of it was exactly from the tests. All tests are multiple choice. You can do well in his class but you have to try.

Make sure you go to lectures and pay attention. His tests are pretty tough, but he sort of guides you on what to study. I felt he went deeper into the content than needed and didn't really like him. However I accidentally slept through one of my exams and he let me retake it. I'm sure if you reached out for help he'd be there for you.

Professor Thorpe knows the material extremely well but does a terrible job presenting it. He expects you to know everything before coming to class and just reads off the power point. Your entire grade depends on the final, a couple exams and a few quizzes, he doesn't offer and assignments or extra credit to help boost your grade. Get someone else.

Literally the worst professor ever. Your whole grade is based off of 4 quizzes, 3 tests, and a final exam. He does not respond to emails if you ask for help. There is no homework or extra credit to balance your grade out. And no matter how hard you study for every one of his tests, you won't get anything above a B. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PROFESSOR

This professor knows his stuff but can't seem to wrap his mind around the fact that the students haven't all already learned the material before. He expects you to know to much and if you're looking to go into pre med or nursing drop his class because your grade will be determined by 3 exams and a couple hard quizzes. Won't give out any ec or hw.

Professor Thorpe is knowledgable but I would not recommend him. You have no homework assignments to help your grade out, it is based on 4 quizzes, 3 exams, and a final. He tells you what to read but is no help, very confusing guy. If you fail the first test it's hard to get your grade back up. He also walks around and ask questions. Good luck.

Absolutely awful! Tests are extremely difficult, no matter how hard you study. All of my friends had different professers for bio 120 and they all are doing great in this class.
