Garry Leonard is a really good professor! His lectures are long but really interesting & lots of reading because its an english course but read and you will pass 100% he also gives us extra credit stuff and even BOOSTED MARKS because of COVID & he said he wants us to not be stressed since we have other courses too!

Read some great books and watched some interesting films. Only two essays and two journal entries in the course - sometimes the essay question is tricky and TAs might mark harshly. However, his lectures are amazing and he gives lots of opportunities for extra credit. He's also very understanding and gives extra time considering COVID, great prof.

I enjoy his lectures: they are in fact inspiring and life-changing! Prof L responds to emails fairly quickly but his answers can be vague sometimes. He also gives out extensions cuz of covid :) Course wise, the workload is kinda heavy since you have to read a book every week and some content can be difficult to grasp

fantastic lectures--EVERY TIME. He doesn't work off notes, he tells a story. the "digressions" are part of the story and you have to "wait for it" sometimes as he builds to a point. but, when he is done, you understand from a multiplicity of angles; historical, , socially, psychologically, personally, globally..

This is the third class I take with this professor and I love it. I always can learn so much from his lectures and his discussions with other classmates. He also provides lots of opportunity to analyze the films in a more deeper and thoughtful way and also what's the event available in our school on this topic. Great professor!

Verbose word salads that don't mean anything comprise the entirety of his lectures. He is the worst prof I have ever had in my life. I am a straight A student and found this class to be insufferably hard because it is impossible to comprehend this pedant of a prof.

So professor Leonard is great. he's absolutely wonderful. But the marking scheme is extremely vague in his course. you could literally write as he speaks in class and the TAs do their own thing in marking. He throws in a bunch of extra credits but nothing is properly accounted for. Fine if you get the grade you want but can be frustrating.

Even though in theory this class has lots of reading. Around one book a week. However, Professor Leonard is very caring, understanding and accomidating in these awful times. He truly tries his absolute best to make online learning the least amount of dreadful.

I took this class because of RMP ratings and needed it for breadth. But please trust me, HES TERRIBLE. any arts/hum/eng students will likely agree. There are not enough characters to explain how bad he is, then again, I could write a thesis paper on it. Not a difficult course but there are easier, more interesting eng courses, don't take this one.

Good professor with very interesting lectures. He's been extremely accommodating during these tough times and overall made my university experience a lot better. Lectures don't really follow a direct linear structure as the prof sometimes goes back to older themes which gets confusing at times but overall a good course

He is a beautiful soul. His taped lectures are sometimes as wonderful as Shakespearean monologues (I am NOT exaggerating--he doesn't tell you what to think, he thinks out loud for you, and he inhabits the brilliant works we read. 'The Waste Land' was an impenetrable jumble of words to me and then he talked his way through it and it came to life.

Absolutely loved this class :) It really isn't just a class about literature and film - it's a class that inspires you to think about big, important ideas. Lectures are very entertaining and thorough; lectures notes are a great accompaniment to the readings. Make sure to stay on top of things for the midterm, journal assignment, and final exam.

Professor Leonard is great. His lectures can get a little long but they're very interesting. Especially since his material really makes you think about the world. He's very accommodating (especially during this dreaded COVID-19 time) and is overall just a great professor. There was a total of 3 assignments including midterm and final so be careful.

Best professor ever! His lectures are interesting and easy to follow. You never get bored as his course is structured around themes and the real world. He goes through everything you need to know and is always available to help. He is extremely considerate and gives extra credit. Loved his class so much that I enrolled in ENGA11. Overall, awesome.

Professor Leonard is seriously one of my favorite professors in UTSC. I really enjoy hearing him speak, his lectures are basically a TED talk and his insight into how the world works is so interesting. The course is relatively easy, just have a basic understanding of the books you are reading and listen to his lectures. Such an amazing prof!

Taking this course, I was hesitant at first since I do not trust my writing capabilities but his way of lecturing and help throughout the course has made this course really easy going so far and made me fall in love with literature again. His lectures are like listening to your favourite uncle's interesting life stories and important life lessons.

Covid has made classes difficult, but Prof. Leonard has been doing the most to ensure this class doesn't add to anyone's stress. He's very accessible outside of class and his marking has been extremely considerate given current circumstances. HIGHLY recommend

Do NOT take this course during COVID. TA's marked out midterm exam incredibly hard! I am usually an A student, but my midterm essay put me at a C. Take a different English course with another professor!
