People complaining that he is boring need to remember that a prof is not required to entertain you. If pop media has reduced your attention span to the point where you can't even hold focus for 50 min that's your own fault. Very nice man, easiest class I've ever taken, very minimal work required

Horrible professor. Doesn't care about the students at all. Expects you to know everything in the boring useless textbook. I literally could hear people snoring every class. He had a curve on the midterm then did nothing for the final and the final was ridiculous and nit picky. thanks to his stubbornness my grade went down a full letter grade.

This was the most difficult class I've taken. Professor Tiemstra is very smart, but he doesn't realize that some people just aren't as intrigued by economics as he is and thus the class becomes very difficult.

Comment:
Prof has a very good knowledge of course material. He applies it to real world issues. He raises and fairly argues both sides of issue. The lectures are routine and not very lively. It is not a highly captivating lecture. The tests are fairly simple if you know the important things covered in class.

This class was a combination of hilarious and ridiculous. Each class is very boring and repetitive. Most people fall asleep in 10 minutes. He is rather humorous though- not that he tries to be funny, he just is.

extremely boring, didn't seem to care a whole lot about students, you have to use his book which isn't good, we've covered a lot, but learned little, he does have a weird curve which is helpful

Take a different prof if you can. Plain and simple. Its not that the tests are that hard, its just that they do not cover anything he teaches in class. Which sucks, because i went to class.

An overall good man, his teaching ability is not the best however. He fails to keep you interested during class, and it's really hard not to fall asleep when its 8 AM. He's really smart so he tends to be intimidating when you speak with him. He also seems irritated when asked to repeat himself. Tests are easy if you know how to write a good essay.

Maybe I'm in the minority, but I really like Tiemstra. The workload for this course isn't backbreaking. He isn't much of a people person, but very intelligent and very clear. Tests are 6 essay questions, pay attention to the lectures, do the homework. Lectures are interesting if you're into it. Fav quote: "The secretary says my voice sounds sexy."

If you want to study econ as a major then you have to take a class with Tiemstra. His class is challenging at times but the thing I appreciated about him is that he does not lower his standards. If you are an Econ major and do well in his class then your in the right field.

Seemingly spends as much time apologizing for economics as teaching it. Very monotone and slightly boring, but substative.

He was monotone and didn't seemed interested in his subject. Never really wanted to be there. Very old, looks like santa. He graded the papers and quizzes easy but the 2 tests were very very BROAD, very VAGUE, and not very easy.

He is the worst prof ive ever had. DO NOT TAKE HIM. Plus, he has his own book you have to use because he couldnt get anyone else to buy it. He could give a crap about the students -- by the end of the semester he only knew like 3 peoples names.

I loved this guy, hard work is required to get a GOOD grade, but it's easy enough to slide by, minimal work earned me a B. He's a little dry but very kind and understanding, tests are more than fair, expecially with his curve.

Need to be willing to work really hard to get a good grade if econ isn't your best thing. Attend lectures-or else you won't do well on the essays. Loves to berate class for not doing well. He knows he's brilliant and it shows.
