Laura is awesome. She is so knowledgeable about education and English. She is very up to date on worldly matters and you will learn a lot from her. She is also very calm and relaxed. The only thing I didn't like about her was that she doesn't post grades.

Be ready to work in ENG261. This is going to be the most challenging course of your English career, but you will pass it if you study hard. Vander Broek was an amazing prof, super sweet, and taught the class well. You will be beyond lucky to have her for this class!

This is a hard class, but this is the professor you want for it. (Required for English majors.) She's sweet, and caring. She is soft-spoken, but she knows what she's talking about. She will gladly re-explain things in class that were confusing. It's definitely not any easy A, or fun, but this professor loves what she teaches and she's good at it.

This class is really hard, but required for English majors. She really helped to make it clear and help us learn. BUT the test material didn't really lie up to what we studied most in class and lectures dragged on quite a bit.

I took 261 for my Applied Linguistics minor and was slightly intimidated by the fact it is an English class, as I am a science major. However, this prof was WONDERFUL. She was very approachable, and was an exceptional teacher. Reading the book is helpful, as well as doing the optional hw assignments. Tests are tricky, but she prepared us well.

This class was really really hard, but I'm really glad I had her as a prof. She was super nice and really helpful. I always almost fell asleep in her class, but it was because of the content, not her. take her if you can.

She's a great professor and very interesting lady. Has a lot to teach and is very passionate about linguistics. It's a tough but interesting topic and she was always willing to help and answer questions. Exams were difficult but if you study you'll do well. Only a few big projects, but as long as you do them then you will do well!

Extremely nice and helpful prof. She lays everything out very clearly. There weren't many big assignments at all (just a few papers and online postings). The material was challenging but she made it way more understanding than the book. Tough grader, so pay attention and ask questions.

I loved Laura! The class material is very challenging but she is great at explaining the concepts. She can get off topic easily and the first day on a new subject can be very overwhelming, but after a couple of classes you will understand with a little effort. Her tests are difficult but her papers are easy. Study for the tests and you'll be fine.

The 2nd worst professor I have had as a student. We were always a period behind in the readings. Tests covered the minute details and not what was talked about. She gave no real practical applications and too many group projects. UNORGANIZED and no time management. The only thing that made it bearable was the other students' trying to help each other

This is a very difficult class, but I can't imagine a better professor than Laura. At times the material can become dense, especially the unit on the IPA, but Laura always makes it understandable. Her exams are not easy but her grading is always fair. Highly recommended.

TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. I tried out almost every professor that teaches this course because so many people scared me about how hard it was. It is a difficult class but only because it is all brand new information. She is definitely the best choice. 4 exams and 2 papers. Tip: Study hard for that first exam. They get better throughout the semester

The best professor I have ever had! This class is definitely as hard as everyone says it is, but she makes it so much better. If you go to class, take notes, do the readings, and ask questions, you will do fine with her as your professor. I have never met a professor more willing to help you as many times as it takes to make you get it! Fantastic!

Great professor! I loved her class, but you do need to do the work. She's very knowledgeable in teaching ESL and I learned a lot that is beneficial to my future teaching career. Her class does have a lot of work, but it is purposeful work that really helps you learn and remember the material. Take her if you can!
