Comment:
Flath's lecturing is haphazard and does not actually teach you anything. The only reason I learned any of the material for this class was because I had either seen it before in a different course, or taught it to myself from the textbook/online.

His lectures rarely make sense, and rarely ever teach you anything, that's even if you are able to read is handwriting. You have to learn all the material on your own since he doesn't provide any help with that. Be prepared to be called on randomly and not understand the question he asking you too, that will happen on a regular basis.

Professor Flath is a very smart dude. That being said, he tends to fly through lectures without really clarifying the material. I appreciate his focus on the theory behind the subjects, but that was overwhelming and made it difficult to understand, let alone finish, the homework.

I really enjoyed Calc 3 with Flath. He's obviously brilliant and you can tell he loves what he does. He can be a little disorganized but he gets necessary points across. He was approachable and helpful during office hours, too. There wasn't much in the way of homework or tests but I still felt like I learned a lot. I would definitely take him again

easy course and easy grader. sometimes goes off tangents and usually pretty inspirational. willing to help if you ask. lectures are disorganised. respected by students as a genius, and you can see his love for math. Actually I learnt all the course by myself.

I have enjoyed Professor Flath's class. He really conveys a passion for math. Tests are easy, especially because he grades very generously and will let you know exactly what to expect to be on the test, which I find really nice. He often goes on a tangent during a lecture, but when he does, it is something interesting that I'm glad he mentioned.

He is amazing. You can EASILY get an A or an A- if you go to his office hours and attend his lectures. His tests are exactly like the problems he teaches in class, just different numbers. If you go to class, you'll definitely know how to do the test.

He is actually very helpful!! If you have any problem with the homework or with the stuff that is taught in class, you can come ask him and he will give you the answer right away. He is very nice and caring. Also, you can easily get an AA- if you pay attention in class and come to office hours regularly. Favorite math professor.

Literally the worst teacher I have ever had at Macalester. He is unclear, unhelpful, and so incredibly smart and above anyones level of understanding that he is unable to come down to the real world and explain things to students. Don't take a class with this incredibly smart man unless you've already taken the subject with someone else.

Lectures are incredibly hard to follow. He flits from topic to topic with no agenda or plan, very hard to keep track of what's going on. Avoid if you don't think you can teach yourself.

Very inconsistent teaching. Really hard to follow his train of thought. Easily distracted, messy handwriting, unclear descriptions. Class was very boring. I would never recommend this professor.

Very unclear-one thought doesn't follow the previous one; handwriting illegible; goes off on tangents. Quizes don't follow what's been learned, what was homework. Very hard to stay focused. Loves the textbook because he helped write it. Forming a study group essential to understanding what's going on/passing the class. Would NOT recommend.
