She never gives feedback. Seriously, worst professor I ever had at Mac so far. Does she really know how to teach? We read 50 pages for one question and spend 5 minutes in class about it. Never go into depth. Everyone complains. I don't see why I go to her class.

Comment:
Professor Vitiello's class is uninteresting at best. We are constantly asked to read textbooks. Her lecture is unengaging and boring, even the content itself is interesting. She forgets to post homework online sometimes, and grades assignments slowly.

Comment:
Joelle Vitiello is generally scatterbrained and uncaring. Her content is not very interesting, even when it had the potential to be. She gave an ungodly amount of homework, all of which was completely pointless. In fact, I don't think there really was a point to the class anyway.

Comment:
Prior to this course, I had very little experience with reading literature in French. However, the way Professor Vitiello structured the course helped students build the stamina required to complete the coursework. Professor Vitiello carefully built up students confidence, which produced impressive results. At the end, I wrote a 2,000 word essay.

Comment:
A little spacy, sometimes unclear what the assignments are and whether you really have to do them (a lot of the time you can get away without doing the homework). Not great at improving actual French language skills (seems to avoid correcting students when they make mistakes) but tackles interesting and controversial cultural issues in the class

Comment:
I've had her for a class in English and in French. She is pretty disorganized and forgets to tell you about assignments until right before they're due. She corrects English papers incorrectly, which is frustrating if you're a good writer. In French she can be hard to understand and does not do a good job of teaching the language.

Joelle is one of the nicest professors I've had. She is really easy to talk to and is very interesting. She may occasionally be a little scatter brained with assignments, but I highly recommend taking her. Her classes make you evaluate what you're learning, but I wasn't really overwhelmed by the work and she gave us a take-home exam!!

Comment:
Really only wants to talk about postcolonialism. Readings are very dry, and she doesn't explain them very well. But she means well and she'll try to help you if you ask. Incredibly boring and over-analytical class.

Comment:
Vitiello's pretty spacy and her lectures are often disorganized. The first half of the semester was spent talking about the Dreyfus affair, and the second whining about the Algerian War. She's very easy, though, and fun to talk to out of class. All student participation is encouraged, even if it's complete BS.

She is one of the most disorganized and spacy profs at Mac but her classes can be really interesting and once she takes off that barrier she is lots of fun. If you want to avoid her classes- fine, but they are actually worth it!

Classes with this professor are bad news. Unless you like not having a syllabus at all or any intelligle expectations for your class work. Or any clear explanations about anything you're supposed to be learning about.
