Comment:
Paul is super passionate about chemistry but gets distracted with things that are more advanced and you dont need to know. Tests are worth a majority of your grade but dont think you can skip homework just because its not worth a lot of your grade. Office hours are great and he explains better in them than in lecture.

Was the class easy? No. Were the tests brutal? Yes. Did I cry multiple times over this class? Yes. But as challenging as this class was, Fischer is an amazing educator. His explanation of ideas was very clear and was VERY helpful during office hours. If you're not on the right track, he helps you until you understand everything.

Be ready to work hard. It is not easy but you will come out a better person. If you are looking to build your study skills, or to get ready for harder STEM courses, and/or go to grad school/med school; he is your guy! You will learn a lot but you may have to sacrifice sanity. He lectures, grades, and explains concepts very thoroughly.

Chem 2 was quite the challenge for me. However, Professor Fischer is hilarious and very kind. He also gives good lectures. Homework is hard, so it definitely helps to do it with others.

One of the worst lecturers I have ever witnessed. He clearly knows a lot about chemistry but is really awful at explaining it, and will go on tangents for at least 20 minutes per lecture. Favorite topics include wrong information about bad sci fi movies and complaining about how regular people don't appreciate the beauty of thermodynamics.

I loved Chemistry in both high school and at a community college level. He made me dread it. The problem was that he made the gen chem class more advanced than it was supposed to and he was a little too egocentric to think about the students who were nonmajors or students who chemistry doesn't come naturally to. All the tons of hw only worth 10%.

I love Professor Fischer! He is passionate about what he teaches and is always accessible outside of class. However, his class is way too hard for a Gen chem class, especially in comparison to the other teachers. His class will give you panic attacks! I would suggest anyone who wants to be a chem major to take him but maybe not other students.

Paul is obviously passionate about chemistry, but he's just too smart. He just lectures and doesn't give examples, so often when I would do my homework I would just feel completely confused. I did great in Chem I, but in this class, I was struggling the whole time. He's a harsh grader, and even though there's a huge curve, I left feeling defeated.

Paul Fischer is a total sweetheart. Not only is he one of the SMARTEST and most knowledgable professors at Macalester, he also cares for his student's education a whole lot. This guy will drop everything to help his students through a single question. His classes are very challenging, but only to ensure thorough understanding of the concepts.

Paul FIscher is pretty amazing. He knows he's a chem geek--in the best sense of the phrase--and owns it. If you need help, the man is there. Will he dumb it down for you? Nope.

Paul Fischer is an incredibly enjoyable person who is a lot of fun in class and not afraid to do practical experiments during class. Fair warning- This class is very hard. Tests are curved- without it everyone would fail. Homework is every class, difficult and toughly graded. But he is there to help if you need it and knows his stuff perfectly.

Paul is a fantastic professor that will keep you challenged but will be there when you need help. He is the nicest, goofiest guy ever. His lectures are very clear, he expects his students to do lots of homework, and his tests are extremely hard. If you are majoring in chemistry, this professor the one to take for Gen Chem.

One of the best professors I have ever had. His tests are crazy hard and his expectations high, but I have never learned so much from anyone. He's also very easy to talk to and always accessible. Hardest class I've ever taken, but the amount I got out of it was worth the pain.

Paul is the best professor I've had so far at Mac. He is a wonderful lecturer, is very accessible and explains everything crystal clear. Even if its an 8:30 class, I've never missed any of them. HIghly recommended!
