Varberg is amazing! I was scared of chemistry back in high school, but not anymore after his class. He often does chemistry demos in class, so it's always a fun time. Sometimes the lectures can be a bit difficult, but the tests are always at a managable difficulty. In general, Varberg motivated me to be a better student, and I'm grateful for that.

Prof Varberg is such a sweet and caring person, and teaches chemistry better than I've ever had it taught to me before. He genuinely cares about his students and clearly loves what he does. It's hard work to do well in his class, but he's the type of professor that makes you want to work hard.

Varburg was a great first semester, first year teacher. You can tell that he cares about the subjects, and often mentions his own research/history/social implications of what his lectures cover. A very manageable class in terms of workload.

Varberg is great. He teaches chemistry clearly and effectively while conveying his love for it and making a difficult (and at times boring) topic fun. He's the perfect mix of tough and nice--his tests were hard, but never unreasonable, and he was intent on teaching us chemistry but also wanted class to be entertaining--lots of great demos!

He was an awesome chem teacher! I had an awful high school teacher and was reluctant to take more chem but Varberg really helped me enjoy chem! I barely had to read for this class because the notes and homework he assigned were all you needed to know on his tests. The tests were super fair as well!

I had him for 311 and 312. Describing him in one word, I would say genuine. He's patient, interested in you, and very good at explaining complicated topics. The textbook was quite bad at connecting concepts with working problems, but he bridges that gap extremely well. I would love more classes with him!

Hardly EVER taught anything relevant to the tests or went in depth. He touched lightly on topics in the text book. Everything he taught in class was easily understood through simply reading the text book. I only got a B because of the problem sets he assigned. He doesn't even review those in class. Hes a cool guy but should teach more in depth.

A funny guy and a pretty good professor. Sometimes he can be unclear but just ask him, and he'll give a more indepth explanation. His demos are fun, most of them. He really does try and make the dull topics more interesting. He loves to talk about his post-doc & sabbatical adventures. If given the chance, definitely take one of his classes.

One of the best teachers I've ever had. Made the dullest topics imaginable as engaging and understandable as possible. He's one of those people that you just can't help but respect. I now teach GChem and find myself frequently referring to his in-class
