Not the most charismatic but a solid prof. Underrated. Exams are easy if you can manage to study the boring material. Very nice man who has all the time in the world to help his students-IF-you show him the respect he deserves; if you treat him poorly, well, what do you expect in return? A good professor.

Worst professor I've had at a university. Hard to understand, what he says makes little sense, and useless when it comes to providing good answers. Anyone who thinks highly of him has never had a real economics prof.

Whoever said that he is a nice professor doesn't know what teaching is really about. Professor Aswani is really unreliable, misses classes without giving a notice. It feels like he is just there for some kind of attendance that the dean of the faculty takes. Otherwise he would not be there and you are the last thing that he cares about. Everything

Horrible teacher, repeats the same thing over and over but doesnt clarify. Cancels class without any notice, in the summer when people go to school for 1 class.

He's the worst professor I've ever had. His accent isn't the reason he's hard to understand, it's because what he says makes no sense. Very unprepared, and his boring, slow, lackluster style of teaching makes attendance very low in his classes.

In my four years at three different universities, I have never seen a professor as bad as Fred Aswani. He's often late, cancels classes last minute, is unprepared, ignores good questions, and is difficult to follow. Worst of all, HE WALKS AWAY FROM STUDENTS WHILE THEY ARE TALKING TO HIM. He has no business dealing with any people at all.

I have a few complaints. First off, he is not helpful at all. He is rude and inconsiderate to students. When students speak up in class he shuts them down with sarcastic remarks. Personally, I had gone to him seeking advice after receiving a low grade, he was rude and sarcastic. He is extremely inconsiderate.

Hard to understand, late for class about once every 2 weeks, and I don't feel like he prepared us well for the midterms. I was NOT expecting that level of difficulty. Although, his notes are useful if you bring them to class, but otherwise they are hard to follow (ie: if you didn't show up). Ended up dropping the course after the first midterm.

Fred is decent prof. His notes are very useful making the textbook completely unnecessary. Most importantly he gives out lots of practice questions and quizes which are really helpful to prepare for the tests and exam. It's sometimes hard to understand certain words he says, you should be able to understand what hes saying if your paying attention

Dr. Aswani is very knowledgable about economics but has an extremely thick Jamaican accent which some students find hard to understand. However, if you listen really closely, he is not that bad at all and you can understand him. Some words to beware of: He pronouces firms as "farms". He makes pretty good notes too.

This guy is the definition of horrible. Why McMaster employs this man is incomprehensible. He's late, hard to understand, unclear with course material, writes somewhat hard tests while not preparing us well enough for them. Teaching is SIMPLY not his best quality.... not even close.

Comment:
Fred has clear student expectations, presents the material well and an entertainer (guarantee to make you laugh). Textbook is useless (notes sufficient). He posts practise questions that makes it easy to get full marks on short answers for tests. Understand the material for the multiple choice Qs, don't memorize. Go to him for help, not the TAs.

He knows what he's talking about, but he's completely incomprehensible. He has a thick African accent and even mentions in class that he refuses to change it because he is proud of his heritage. That's fine; but he shouldn't be in a career where communication is important because you can't understand anything he says.

Aswani is an amazing prof. He gives you THE BEST notes and helpful quizzes. He explains concepts very well on the board with excellent examples. By the second or third class, you'll get used to the accent. Aswani is VERY knowledgable in economics and most importantly, he knows HOW to teach. Exams are fair but most of the theory is from the book.

Fall08: Not an easy course. Couldn't understand what he was teaching. The beginning of the course is easier than the latter half. Final was really tough. Easy to do well in online quizzes (Aplia).
