Do not take this class if you're not Latino. He will speak in Spanish during lectures, grades extremely biased, will not return work, overall should not be teaching.

Dr. Canul is an inspiring lecturer. I was only mildly interested in the course material at the beginning of the quarter, but he made it relevant and important... very important. I have a lot of respect for him and his class was the best part of my day. I would happily take any course that he teaches.

The class is very easy and straightforward. Reading is required, but nothing from the book came out in the midterm. The midterm is fairly easy even without studying, it is common sense. He including adds extra points to our tests. Lectures are interesting and we often watch movies to further understand the topic.

Loved this class, Dr. Canul is a great lecturer. Have had 2 of his classes now and it's clear that he wants students to stop and think for themselves, instead of looking for quick & easy answers. A Very approachable professor, passionate about the material.

Overall, I would never take a class with him again. I felt he was not organized, his powerpoints were not very clear, and his exams were so trivial. One midterm, one final, two in-class reflection writings, and he offered an extra credit paper. Didnt think the class was very difficult because I have taken so many psych classes in the past 4 years.

I was scared because of the reviews, but he wasn't that bad. Says up-front that he goes off on tangents, but makes an effort to stick to PPTs. Passionate, encourages class discussion. No "agendas," just truth. Grading was midterm(45)final(45)& 2 in-class reflection assignments (10). Offered EC paper at the end. READ THE BOOK & take lots of notes.

Alright professor. Went off on tangents a lot. But could tell he was passionate about the subject. Mostly learned from reading the book, though. Discussions only 5 weeks; one small paper to write. It was a straight forward class that I just didn't really find interest in.

Fairly easy class. I never went to class and got 44/50 on both midterms. Discussions are mandatory but they are not every week.

The class is kind of boring, but he is a nice person. The problem is there is only one midterm and one final exam 50/50! multiple choice questions. 19 chapters, not cumulative. If you wanna get an A, study for both exams. Study the powerpoint slides and the main point from the book. Also remember the important dates like when the first DSM published

Incredibly boring and difficult to listen to. He tends to repeat words twice and speaks in blocks. Tests aren't hard but considering no one's interested in what he's saying, it's hard to study for.

Very boring professor... fewer than 10 students show up every lecture. 2 midterms and a final. Some extra credit. Tests are somewhat hard? It seems straightforward but I got a C in the class.

Terrible powerpoints. Went all over the place, I couldn't even take proper notes. Horribly boring. Terrible speaker. Shouldn't be a teacher, should be pursuing a different career. Doesn't know the first thing about teaching or relating to students. Seems to be oblivious to his own terrible teaching. AVOID HIM.

He decided to drop one midterm. I still do not understand what exactly motivated such a poor decision. His lectures were attended by under 20% of the enrolled students for good and obvious reason. This class might as well be an online class because the professor is utterly and completely useless.

He's super chill and down to earth. His presence definitely makes you comfortable, and his classes have a lot of room for discussion, the only problem is that students keep quiet. I really liked him. I can tell he's passionate about his subject, but because so many students are not, his influence isn't as high as it should be,

He's one of the most down to earth guys you'll find in the psych dept. A number of his classes require lots of reading, cover to cover. Keep up with readings and go to class. If you don't keep up with the readings you'll regret it when you see the study guide. I took all his classes except one. Lowest grade was a A-, and no I'm not Latino.

Mr. Canul is a nice person but I did not understand anything he was saying during his lectures! I went for a few classes but gave up soon after.. Don't even bother reading his powerpoints because they don't help. Just read the textbook and make SURE you do the study guides.

Prior taking his class over Summer Session II, i was scared because of the description of his class. But just do the work ppl, take notes and listen. He's awesome, enthusiastic and i found my calling after taking his lecture. In fact, he apologizes way too much when explaining his theories so as to not offend people.

Good luck if you are not Latino. This prof. favors Latino students. So if you are of any other decent ? Good Luck. I am an A student, and I am used to studying a lot and taking hard exams. I worked my tail off in this class and this is the only B+ on my transcript...only because I am not Latino. Regret taking this instructor.
