If you are an English major, someone who wants more than a degree (to learn grammar/writing well), then Kirk is the way to go. She is intimidating, but well worth taking in my opinion.

Comment:
Kirk is the worst teacher I've ever had. Throughout the entire Advanced English Grammar course, she touted that previous iterations of the class had a 50% or less passing rate. Very curt and rude, and her cold calling is predicated on who she thinks will get the question wrong. I've never had a teacher hope students fail; she gets off on fear.

Professor Kirk is a great professor. She has a very clear grading criteria and makes her expectations clear. You will write a lot in her class, but she offers revisions and she will give extensions if you need them. She pushes you to improve and genuinely cares about her students. She also bakes for the class often and has a great sense of humor.

Lectures are scattered and very hard to follow. Unfair grading of essays. Too much reading and too much cold calling. Attendance mandatory, participate in class discussion or to her you are absent. DO NOT RECOMMEND UNLESS NECESSARY.

Strange woman. Great writer, not a good teacher. I couldn't make heads or tails of what she was trying to teach, and I'm usually pretty good with grammar. She also seemed very unfair. I was in class with two girls who were her pets...not fun.
