The final focused on a homework reading never discussed in class. Presentation and paper assignments done on one day that accounts for 50% of the grade. He's unclear and egregiously disorganized. I'm disappointed that I got a C in this literature class after getting a 5 on the AP Lit exam. I wish I could blame myself for it, but he's just so bad.

McGuire is adorable and very interesting to talk to, but isn't a great professor. I took him for two classes and the coursework for both wasn't well thought out or explained. He's very forgetful as well. He cares for his students, but it doesn't override his shortcomings.

This class wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't for the professor's appalling disorganization. He doesn't make clear what is going to happen in class or what his expectations are. What should be an easy and interesting class is something I dread and stress about more than any other of my classes. Other than that, he's fairly funny and friendly.

McGuire is an interesting guy. He's very nearly funny, but falls just short a lot of the time. Regardless, he's entertaining. His lectures are hard to follow because he hops around and doesn't speak very clearly. He really tries to leave his students with more than knowledge, with the ability to think for themselves and find a purpose.

His tests make absolutely no sense and do not cover the readings that were assigned. Regardless of how much time you put into his class, the tests still don't get any easier. Guessing is better than trying to study. Also, I did not chose to be in his class, I was randomly assigned into it through my RAP so there was nothing I could do to change.

I would not recommend taking a class with Professor McGuire. His class is very unclear about class policies and assignments. He once threw my exam booklet across the room in front of the class. He is very harsh and at times makes you feel stupid. He is very blunt, condescending, and rude.

Pretty confusing teacher and class. I could never find the syllabus and always felt pretty lost on what was going on in class. You have to talk to him a lot outside of class to understand what's going on.

Comment:
Your grade in the course is comprised for 5 timed papers and a presentation grade. He gives vague, extremely complex prompts and no time to come up with a good argument. All grading is purely subjective and he grades on a traditional bell curve (5% get A's , 10% B's, etc...). I would recommend NOT taking this class.

A bit offensive and would ramble on and on about random things. Not clear at all nothing he says made sense. I went to class everyday and got a 55 in attendance. Would NOT take EVER again.

Had him for a discussion based RAP class. At times it is difficult to wrap your mind around the discussion topic and the midterms can be extremely difficult if you don't go to class. Reading the material (or SparkNotes of the material) is very helpful to your grade.

He is an absolutely incredible professor. He's willing to say what he thinks about the topic (or anything else, for that matter). He loves the subject matter and it's infectious. You will work very hard in his class, but you will think your grade was fair. He comes off as tough in the beginning, but he's really a big softie.

He was an amazing professor. I had him for a discussion based class, and he really helped all of us explore our ideas in a respectful environment. For papers and tests, the grading was tough, but extremely fair. He was also really funny! I wish I could take more classes from him!

Great professor who loves the subject. He is a love him or hate him guy, but if you dont take him too seriously then he is quite funny. Get your work done and he is not too tough on tests.

McGuire is a great guy, very funny, and not afraid to be politically incorrect. I like his personality and teaching style overall, but the readings are impossibly boring. He'll say "read Wilson", but won't tell you which part of the 300 page book. Good guy - don't take him if you don't want to read a LOT. www.sparknotes.com will save you!
