He is a very nice guy, the class only met once a week so it wasn't too bad at all. He is a nice guy and very helpful when you seek his help. The writing is good writing and the readings are not too bad as well, you just have to show some effort into all of it and you'll do just fine. He is okay overall, he's there to help you whenever you need it.

I have him for night class and we only meet once a week on Tuesdays, and he's alright, definitely not the best teacher you could have but the class is not hard. We only meet once a week, so it's limited interaction with him. He's a nice guy, the grading is okay, might be tough if you cannot write well, but overall not a bad class. He's alright. :)

He is much more an old school professor, likes to do things very old style. He is an okay professor, not the best choice to take, but he is not to bad. Put effort into the class and you will do just fine. Go to his office hours if you are struggling and or need help with your papers. He is nice and helpful if you approach him and seek help.

He is an okay professor, a little older, but he's not too bad. The class can be really boring at times, but if you pay attention and do all the required work, it's not too bad. Read all the literature assigned and focus on your writing and you will be fine. There is homework, so be sure to complete it fully and of course on time.

This class wasn't difficult at all, it's basic English, pretty standard. His teaching may not have been the best, but if you do all the work you will get a good grade, I did. He is a nice guy for the most part, but I wouldn't necessarily take him again. The lab is a pain, but required to pass the course. The essays aren't hard, just be dedicated.

He is a nice guy for the most part, but his lectures are pretty boring and aren't that entertaining. The class consists of a lot of reading and of course writing as well. It's not an easy course, don't expect him to be easy either. The class can tend to be boring as well, seeing as he is very old school in his teachings. Really boring class.

Good old fashion teacher that makes you earn your grade, gives a lot of ways to be successful in his class and students should remember these guidelines if they expect a B or higher, old fashion out loud reader that expects a lot of students to volunteer which helps build character for the real world because the real world needs contributors

Valter is truly one of the most inspirational English prof I've ever had. He provides excellent feedback on papers and will explain in depth if you ask. He is a tough grader but you'll do well if you put in effort. Make sure to participate in class. Poetry project isn't as hard as people say.. he gives examples and basically shows you how to do it.

Valter is the meanest and most unkind teacher I have ever seen or heard of. He doesn't even plan for lessons but instead you read aloud from the textbook. Valter- did you ever hear of a pop-quiz? He treats you like an elementary chil, except without any respect at all. People do well in college in spite of him, not because of him.

He asks students to choose a poem and do a presentation, and the silly part to write a paper about it. He threats his students would give them "failing grade" from the first day of the class. He asks for people's opinion not optionally. Likes to rule his little kingdom. Not recommend.

The class is divided into three sections; short stories, poems, and Hamlet. You take a quiz for each section that is random so be prepared. You will be hard pressed to make him see your opinion about a story,a poem, or Hamlet. There are also two or three major papers that he assigns that he grades hard and expects you to do well on. Good luck.

Mike Valter is the worst teacher I have seen in my scholastic life and career over the past 50 years. He is rude, mean, and unskilled. Please! Reading aloud from the text as a class activity?? I hadn't done that since 4th grade. It's amazing that I didn't quit college after this nasty experience (it was my first class as a returning adult)

He is a rather mean teacher. As all of us know that we all take more than three courses for one semester. There is going to be some point that you missing one assigned reading. He got pretty rude when you can meet his expectation. Not very clear on his requirement on essays. People got very confused what he was looking for.

I had him a long time ago. He is genuinely caring if you pay attention, although he is extremely difficult. The only problem with his class is that he values overanalysis. I'm not sure if he still makes students give a 45 minute presentation on simple 20 line poems.

I have to say that English literature is a hard course for many people, Mr Valter makes it even harder. He has such a harsh attitude that you feel bad about yourself most of the time. We are here to learn not to get humuliated all the time. Instructors should have some ways to encourage students not to depress them.

Very good teacher. I've been out of school for 10 years and needed his class as a requirement to transfer. My writing skills were ok but he helped me out on some problems and my writing got better. He does have a hard attitude if your not paying attention or participating in class. Very thankful I took his class as I learned alot and got an A.

Mr. Valter is a very demanding teacher who expects the best out of you. He gives a lot of work, but he is also very helpful if you ask him questions. I would like to take him again, but this class probably isn't for you if you want a easy A.

Mr Valter helped me, for the first time, to learn how to write an essay. I never thought I would be proud of a "B"! It would have been easy just to give a good grade - and I would have learned nothing. He helped me to earn something I will have the rest of my life. A good man and a great teacher.
