Professor Mathews is a very nice person, but a horrible professor. Matthews lectures were rambles and always off topic, she never had a clear point and couldn't explain well. The grading is based on 4 exams and 2 points per chapter notes for extra credit if you decide to do them. She always curves test because students do bad. Sugges Don't take her

I took Professor Matthews for both Bio 1 and 2. She's a very good professor and is a nice woman. She has been with Valencia a long time and is well respected. She gives extra credit for taking notes before the lecture. I looked up the material on quizlet, memorized it, then applied it to the exams and finished both classes with low As.

I took Professor Matthew's bio 2 class YEARS ago and she is still my favorite professor to this day. I think about her and the things she taught me often. Take her!! She is such an inspiring professor.

Hardest class I've taken so far. Her lectures consists of showing pictures with no word what so ever and she gives quizzes every week. Her test are the hardest no matter how much you study for it. There's so much stuff going on in this class and it gets so overwhelming and this Prof. is no help at all. There's only so much you can handle

Although Professor Mathews is nice her class is tough. With a lot of self teaching it is possible to receive an "A" for her class. Lab practicals are the hardest things. She gives a A LOT of extra credit so it makes up for lost points. She goes through each ch. in a half an hour and spends the rest of time in class telling stories.

This class was harder than it should have been. The comments are TRUE: all she does is show pictures and teaches through them. You will not learn if you do not read and teach yourself. This teaching method does not help me at ALL.. I always tried and it just did not work. But, she is nice but just talks too much about irrelevant information...

During lectures, the professor goes off on rabbit trails that have little to do with the subject matter. Her explanations of concepts are muddled and peppered with useless information. It's possible to get an A; I did. But not because of her. I had to teach myself most of the material. You're better off taking someone else.

Do not take this class whatever you do. The tests are the hardest thing ever and this professor does not really teach or thoroughly explain anything. I struggled a lot in this class and now I have to take this course again. Dropped my gpa.

SO SO SO SO SO DIFFICULT. The hardest class I have ever taken in my entire life. Whenever you go and ask her for help, she will redirect you and tell you that maybe you should reconsider your career options. Her job is to teach which she doesnt do and then she goes on rambling about random stuff. Shes a very cute and kind lady but class is TOUGH!!!

She is the WORST professor I have ever had. Never did any actual lecture, you were just expected to read, learn, and comprehend the material all on your own. Her labs seemed easy until you had a practical. She has two of them, she never expressed the importance of them so we didn't study the correct material. She does TONS of unnecessary talking!!

If you learn by taking notes and making a summary, this class is for you. Her tests needs critical thinking and not just memorization, you need to really analyze concepts. Her labs are easy breezy (no lab report) but when you get to lab practicals, you sure need to remember all the things in lab because she tests you. You'll need to work harder.

At first she seemed to know what she was talking about however as the class went on she could hardly answer students question and would say" I'll get back to you" and that was the end of it. Less teaching and more irrelevant story telling . If you're genuinely interested in learning Bio don't take it with her. I got an A but I struggled.

Her class was probably the hardest most confusing class that I have ever taken at Valencia. Although I rarely studied since I was always at work it was a tough class to keep up and if you fall behind your grade WILL suffer. The extra credit saved my grade and read her lecture notes they are extremely helpful

Mrs. Matthews is not an actual professor contrary to how most students address her, you have to have an actual Ph.D to earn that title! Extra credit is key to doing well in her class because she sure as heck doesn't teach anything. The material is boring as-is but she makes you do hand-written annotations way ahead of the chapter which doesn't help

This is the worst professor EVER. Her tests are so hard youll think theyre in another language. she does NOT teach, this is a self taught class. she thinks everyone should be interested in bio the way she is but she does nothing to help you except extra credit points. dont bother taking this you will fail. she shows you pictures all day & thats it.

Professor Matthews is very knowledgeable but her teaching method is not effective. She swears by it, but as a student it just doesn't work for me. She just goes over the pictures in the book. Her labs are awful, doesn't explain them well. Only work she assigns is chapter annotations which she assigns way too early and too many at a time.

I got an A. This is how I did it: I read every chapter, highlighting pertinent info. I spent quite a bit of time on the extra credit annotations and used them to study. I did all extra assignment that the professor offered. I made tons of flash cards for the lab practicals and tests. I reviewed lab material prior to midterm and final. Good luck.
