Comment:
This is one of the worst classes I've ever taken, and I am a computer science major. She gives "technical assignments" which are basic html/xml files but rarely specifies the requirements in the assignments. She expects students to magically remember everything she wants by memory and does not respond to emails when asked for help. Terrible.

Requires daily work and readings. She expects detailed notes/commentary on daily readings. Also has two decently sized papers through the semester. Gailey is quick to judge and promotes a hostile classroom. Her focus is in politics & theory. If you take the course be prepared for "everything is political" and makes small things big deals.

The February reviews are obviously false, that or something major happened. Either way, do not take her class. Long lectures that turn into rambles, rarely a main point, and pushes too much her own political opinion. Never felt safe to discuss differing ideas when in the same room. Other students I talked with after class agreed.

Its quite hard to believe that the good comments on this professors are actually real. Notice that a bulk of the positive comments are either within the same day or close to the same day. I do not recommend this professor in any capacity. DO NOT take this professor.

Disappointed the university doesnt audit teachers. Ive never had a political agenda shoved down by throat like I did in English class with Miss Gailey. Realize youre there to teach and not preach your opinions.

I agree with a few previous posts. Gailey successfully killed my interest in anything Digital Humanities related. Something I had been very passionate about going into class. But her lectures are long and boring, and does nothing to make them interesting. Along with the books. Zuboff's book could have been 200 pages, not 500.

She has a lot of busy work reading assignments, but those, her quizzes, and papers are graded pretty easily. I thought she was really funny and open to all opinions in her class.

Every day there's a new reading assignment, and there has to be a reading response for each assignment. She cares about the material she teaches, but doesn't do much to make it interesting. There are 2 main papers, which the grading criteria on isn't too clear. The midterm and final are cumulative, but she's clear on what will be on those.

All the positive reviews from February are clearly red flags. RMP needs to look into those reviews, as they do not line up with previous reviews. This lady is anything but hilarious and helpful. She is crabby, dry, rambles, and does not respond to emails. Very knowledgeable, but she did fib on some facts, historical ones, which I knew were false.

It is obvious that this course covers Amanda's area of expertise as she's always able to give an extra piece of information or funny little side trivia about a reading or author. There was a lot of reading, but that's kinda expected from a course like this, and each reading was justified; there was no busy work. Among the best professors I've had!

What a fun class! Amanda had us do all sorts of special things, like sewing our own syllabus codexes, taking a field trip to see how paper was traditionally hand-made, visiting the Special Archives, and, and, and. She definitely never let the material get boring and always had something fun (or funny) to add! Loved this!

Amanda was extremely helpful in offering us insights into the variety of focus areas we might specialize in. She was always ready to give us more information if we wanted it, and her jokes made this class a lot of fun. There is a lot of reading, but it's definitely worth taking and taking with this professor!

This is one of those courses and professors where you get to really get a hands-on experience on what you want to do. Amanda definitely knows her stuff and was super helpful in getting us to do final projects with which we could do something in the future. My project partner and I ended up donating ours to the Special Archives, which is super cool!

Tough grader and grades things very last minute. Rambles on throughout class time and rarely asks for student engagement back.
