Comment:
Prof. Skubby is passionate about the course and is heavy on participation. This class was very difficult for me being that the three tests were all extremely long essays (for Honors version at least). If you're not into international relations, some of the things being taught are quite difficult to grasp. Lectures were hard to follow sometimes.

I consider myself as pretty strong w/history & political science, but I definitely had to work more for my A in this class. For online, we read 1-2 chapters weekly w/online quizzes (sometimes discussion posts too), but I also had to take the long 3 exams in the testing center, which took me 2-3 hours; I never got below a B on an exam though.

Skubby is probably one of the worst professors I've had so far. It was the hardest class I have taken and the one I've studied the most in. No matter how much you study, you don't get a good grade on the exams. The exams wouldn't really relate to the study guide at all and I felt like I was learning new information while taking the exam (yikes).

I would not suggest this class to anyone I studied as hard as possible for every test and still failed hes a great guy but not a teacher only tests and quizzes are your grade no homework to help you and tests do not show what you know since you have to be very specific and know at least 30 pages of notes.

Dr. Skubby prides himself on giving difficult exams, but if you read all the assignments, take good notes, and show up & participate in class, you'll do fine; probably the hardest "A" I ever earned. The lectures are informative and interesting. I'll definitely take him again. He's also available outside of class; just visit his office.

Class, while is not the hardest thing in the world, is very challenging and Prof. Skubby makes you work for a good grade. You will likely not be able to get by just doing the bare minimum, effort is required. I was able to clinch a B thanks to the extra credit. Overall, not a terrible experience, but far from ideal in my opinion.

Doctor Skubby has high expectations. If you attend class, read the required readings, and participate in class you should be okay. This is a college class where much will be expected. Do the work and you will be rewarded. He also gives an opportunity for extra credit.

Professor Skubby is by far the toughest teacher Ive ever had. He expects way too much out of us for a freshman level class and the work load is insane. If you dont participate a lot, your grade drops tremendously. The exams are so tough. He wants every single detail and nothing less or you get several points off.

Comment:
Professor Skubby has a very difficult class because he normally seems to lecture and a lot and tell you stuff to study, then put stuff that we never discussed in class or in the textbook on the tests. Then grades you on that, so no matter how hard you study for any kind of test, you will never do good on it in his class

Full disclosure: I only had him for the Model UN class, so can't speak on more standard classes. He is very knowledgeable & a caring & interesting person as well. If you are interested in polisci, you should definitely sign up for MUN. There isn't too much in-class prep though, so you have to work hard on your own to get the most out of it.

Avoid this professor. He is condescending, boring and the class was unnecessarily difficult. He requires that you participate in boring 'class discussions' for a grade, and clearly doesn't know how to engage a class. I took this class during an election year and expected some sort of a debate or at least a discussion about it, which never happened.

He is a very hard grader. I had a different teacher and my counselor look over a paper I had to write and both said it was amazing. They even corrected certain things that needed to be graded. He still gave me a horrible grade! Has the same reasoning for his grading and even when changed, still says that it was the reason for the grade.

Absolutely loved this class! Very tough grader. If you don't participate, attend or study for the test, be prepared to fail. One of the hardest classes I've ever taken. Very clear and knowledgeable in POLS.

I currently have him, and I enjoy coming to class. The material is not hard to understand, and he does a great job explining it more in depth if you need it. He is very friendly. Make sure you participate in class. It will not only get you points, but it will make him like you more. I would take this class again. Great professor!

Taking an online class, you would expect tests to be taken online. Nope, you have to go in to take them. Consist of multiple choice and short/long essays. The book for this course is very difficult to read if you are not a government major. Final paper is long and the professor gives no feedback as to what is done wrong.

He talks for ever and expects you to read 2+ chapters a week and about a dozen online articles just to pass his tests. Lectures are boring and his handwriting is terrible. If you can learn by somebody writing and talking and nothing else then I guess he's your guy. Hardest tests I've taken.

Professor Skubby is tough, make no mistake about that. However, he is passionate about the material and his lectures can be fascinating. Participation is CRUCIAL; even if you are entirely wrong, he wants to hear your thoughts. I finished with an A in both classes by practicing writing essay answers & reading the 100s of Blackboard articles posted.

If you read, take notes, study, and participate, you will succeed. He seems to appreciate when students participate and ask questions about the material. Try to be on time, avoid eating, and at least look like you are paying attention, because he is not afraid to call out those who are not following his standards.
