One of my favorite people ever, but one of the worst profs I have ever had. He has the biggest heart and the best personality, but unfortunately, this doesn't translate to teaching well. He doesn't give clear assignments, there is no direction in class or lecture and you never know if or when there will be a test. Great man. Not great teacher.

He is an excellent professor! He cares deeply about his students and the material he teaches. He wants you to learn and will do what is necessary for you to understand it. His classes can be a bit disorganized, but if you go with the flow, you will be fine. Also, there's really never a boring class with his personality and jokes. Highly recommended

His class was super easy! He is a little scatter brained and very easily distracted. There is daily homework, but tons of opportunity for extra credit and it is not hard. His tests are really easy. Just be engaging in the class and you'll be fine! Definitely take this class.

As an international student, I always struggled with language at Calvin. This Prof lets me really feel that He does care about teaching. He spent lots of time out of class to help me improve my grammar and answer my questions. in addition, he is little crazy in the class and make class interesting. class is not very easy, but people can get fun

Professor Wykstra is the most eccentric, intense, and hilarious professor I have met. IF you bear with him, he will TRAIN you to become a better philosophy student and a better writer--and you should appreciate it. He has tremendous teaching talent, and he devotes a semi-extreme amount of time and effort to his students. Don't miss out on him.

had him a while ago. horrible prof, plays favorites, impossible to understand his chicken scratch on the board. most of the recent reviews were probably him, who else writes "talk to him to find out how good of a person he is" and capitalizes everything. all on the same day. anyways, long story short, DO NOT TAKE WYKSTRA

Professor Wykstra is crazy, but an amazing prof who is willing to go out of his way to help a student. I would advise taking him if the chance arises, just be prepared to do some HW.

Wykstra is a quirky but good professor. The value of having him as a professor comes through when you get to know him more personally, which is is not hard because he practically lives in his office.

Dr. Wykstra is one of the best professors at Calvin! I took him for an interim course on Augustine. It was life-changing! He's so devoted to teaching. Don't listen to the negative comments. Talk to Dr. Wykstra and find out for yourself how great a person he is!

Great Professor for Symbolic Logic. He is a little crazy, but since when has that been a bad thing? He is willing to work with you and coach you if you are willing to put the time in. Overall this was my second favorite class I've had at Calvin. I would highly recommend Dr. W for any individuals with even a moderate interest in Philosophy.

Great prof! Very funny, willing to help students out of class time, very eccentric in a good way. Makes creative illustrations. I also had him for an interim during which he often fed the class. Hard on grades, but he's actually really fair.

This professor is simply TERRIBLE. I'm not one to hate classes but I couldn't stand this class. W is disorganized, moody, unhelpful and straight up weird. All he ever talks about is cats and sex. At the beginning I thought "Well he's not the greatest but I'll survive." I WAS WRONG. Avoid at all costs. Easy grader on hw but thats the only good thing

For majors in symbolic logic (don't know about epistemology), this guy is awesome. The only professor who will almost say anything in class (he twice insulted a student's intelligence) and do anything in class (one day he played the harmonica). He likes making Bob Dylan and 60's references and finding ways to incorporate screaming into a lecture

Do not take this class unless you are a Physics or Astronomy major/minor. Homework was always impossible and based on class discussion. Write down EVERY THING said by Wykstra AND the students. He often used student questions as homework and final questions. Get out while you can!

DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!! I thought the "science" aspect would be fun but I was wrong. This class is only for those who love disorganization and confusion. Good luck if you get stuck with him.

Comment:
This is the absolute WORST course I have ever taken. It was taught extremely poorly and I never even knew what the homework was. His teaching style is very disorganized and so is the course as a whole. I never knew what he expected of me. For the good of future Calvin students, Wykstra should never teach again.

Comment:
Do Not take this Prof for intro level Philosophy! He demands way too much for a 100 level course and is a very difficult grader. He changes assignments often making it difficult to do the assignment correctly. He is a nice guy but way too hard for 100 level course
