Hegglund is an awesome guy. He's genuinely caring and understands that stuff happens. That being said, He'll expect you to have the same leeway with him as he tends to get slightly behind with grading. Takes time to explain difficult concepts.

Hegglund was a fun and interesting professor, although he seemed to have a general bad attitude in class and often canceled class (which is fine by me). Learned a lot, and found the course very interesting.

Probably my favorite teacher this semester! He is fun and gets you thinking about the readings. Make sure you do well on the few papers assigned and get started on them early -- especially the final! If you put in the effort you'll be rewarded. Jon is a great teacher, I'd definitely recommend him.

Very clear and helpful and caring. Assignments and daily lessons are clearly planned ahead of time. There isn't much student to student discussion, so lectures aren't inherently engaging, but he comes with good questions.

Hegglund is a great teacher, but for this class needed to clarify more on what we were learning. I have had him in the past and I suggest him for any class except for this one.

Discussion post every week! That is what really got my grade in the end. So keep up with that. The teacher is alright, really straight forward but all the books were about war so it was a little morbid.

Loved the class. Great teacher. You read about 1/2 to a full book a week, write discussion posts, and write a few short essays. Love how he included film versions of the novels into the material. Helpful with questions. He even made some short youtube mini lecutres. Would definitely take another Lit class from him.

Took courses with Jon back at CCSU and was great and from the comments sounds like he still is. Glad to see he was able to get another great position and continue on with getting published, read what he has published it is quite a treat. For an academic he actually gets the real world which is rare. Put in the effort to learn & you will.

Comment:
Most of the course is based on what he thinks is important. No chance to develop new ideas because he thinks his ideas are more important. And forget about bringing up issues of gender! He'll be quick with the ever so popular "men have it bad too" speech. Waste of time for anyone remotely interested in learning anything new. Boring, unimaginative.

Comment:
Dr. Hegglung, while entertaining, was not entirely an exercise in positive academic pursuit. Actually, he made us focus on the theme of the course, which only partially entertained the ideas of the period. Because of this focus, I don't feel as though I wasn able to explore the issues that I thought were pertinent

I don't think he was vry clear with helping us on the material. it was mostly based on opinion which was good for me cause I loved the movies he chose. He was funny, especially the subtle sense of humor towards dumb students. The class was challenging especially for a 150 course. Overall pretty good professor.

I can't stand this guy. His film class is very pretentious (which I guess you might expect)and he has no real skill at getting people to understand the material. He also tries way too hard to be funny. I do not reccomend taking a class from him.

I also took 389. Jon is a swell professor and advisor. The laid back atmosphere encourages great discussion. He doesn't let students turn in crappy papers for good grades, he has honest and forward criticisms that are well deserved. He doesn't allow people to sleep in class, but if you are paying attention this shouldn't be a problem because he always keeps class varied and interesting to his students. The reading is a bit intensive but worth investing in. I'd recommend Jon to anyone.

I loved Jon, he is a total hottie and hilarious to boot. I think it sucks that the teachers get rated higher for easy; he is a challenging teacher and I love that. He is awesome!
