I was completely scared of Patricia the first few classes, but after understanding her teaching style, I learned she is all about tough love. I have grown to admire and respect her. I learned so much from that class, and would recommend it highly.

I loved Patricia's class so much I will be taking The Channels next semester and I've declared a major in Journalism. Be ready to learn because her experience in the field of journalism gives a lot of insight and she's passionate about instilling that in her students. I'm really sad she's no longer The Channels advisor but she has prepared me well!

Some students might say Patricia is mean. She is everything but that. She doesnt hold your hand throughout the semester, instead she gives you great advice and suggestions for you to reach your goals on your own. She asked me if I was getting an AA, I said no. She encouraged me to get one and now Im getting 3. Shes low key the best.

Bottom line - if you want to work in journalism or any media industry your editors, producers etc. will not use kid gloves with you and neither will Patricia. If you are serious about wanting to be in this field then she is the perfect professor to take because her brutal honesty will prepare you like nothing else can. Just don't take it personal.

Patricia is an amazing, wonderful woman who any student would be lucky to learn from. The class is all about you. If you care and do your assignments- you'll pass with an A. If you blow off your reporting partner and don't do your assignments- you'll fail. It is that simple. Also, shout out to the LTA John Rose his puns are legendary.

Patricia is easily one of the best teachers in the world. SBCC is lucky to have her. She taught me so much about journalism, how to be a better writer, and how to be successful. I have never had a teacher that really cares about your success and moving forward more than Patricia. I would recommend her to anybody.

I owe my experience and knowledge to Patricia. She pushed me out of my comfort zone & taught me everything I needed to know. Shes made the biggest impact on my future. Tough but worth it!

Taking Patricia's class helped me to regain my confidence as a writer. 2 semesters and 3 classes later I can confidently say I know how to copy-edit, interview others, use Wordpress, scout for stories, and more. The skills you learn in this class are extremely valuable and you'll take them with you wherever you go.

Easy peasy, helps you become a better writer. Do attend all classes and do the writing assignments. Required 5 sessions with writing tutor which seemed excessive at first but they are helpful, esp when it comes to writer's block. There is a textbook but it's used more as a reference guide. Some collaboration in class and sometimes group reporting.

I had Patricia for 3 classes, 2 semesters. P really cares about her students' careers. She gives you the building blocks to learn to report, write, edit. Even if you don't pursue journalism as a career, the skills you learn in this class are valuable for the real world and your career, such as ABC writing, collaborating in a team, using Wordpress.

Patricia's students seem to either hate or love her classes. This is because she can be tough on her students. BUT, she is only tough because she cares. Take a class with her and you can expect to be challenged and inspired, but know she doesn't tolerate slackers. I'm really glad I took her class. SBCC is lucky to have a teacher of her caliber.

I was a bit concerned to take her class after reading past reviews, but I can honestly say I've never learned more from a teacher. I'm incredibly thankful for the knowledge she has given me because it will last a lifetime. If you want to be a journalist, take her class! You will be pushed because she cares, and it will leave you inspired!

I was surprised to see all the bad reviews on here because of how amazing this teacher is. Even if you are not interested in Journalism, you will leave her class a better writer and a more understanding person. She knows how to bring the best out of her students as long you show that youare willing to learn. I highly recommend this teacher.

Patricia genuinely cares about her students' success. She gives incredibly detailed feedback on major assignments, and is very knowledgable, having been a professional jouurnalist for several years before teaching. She may be off-putting at first, but do not take it personally. If you want to become a clearer, more concise writer, take her class.
