Dr. Slater is an amazing professor. He cares about every student in his class. He always tries to include everyone in the conversation. He usually assigns a couple of short papers throughout the semester and gives good feedback on them. I have learned a lot from Dr. Slater and would definitely take another class with him if I could.

Fantastic professor. He really focuses on improving your writing rather than just following a list of rules. He has many opportunities for points, and he is clear if you listen to what he is saying. If you care about your writing or truly want to improve it, he's perfect for that. Really cares about his students and a really nice, easy going guy.

He seems like an easy teacher due to excessive extra credit opportunities, but he is disorganized and difficult to understand. He will assign papers and make it very unclear what he wants. He rambles on and doesn't go into detail about assignments. A lot of the work you do doesn't have anything to do with the papers written. Doesn't answer emails.

Great films and really caring prof. Wrote a lot but other than discussion what can you do with films? Come on! Prof offbeat but that made class fun! Take this class if you like film, writing, and sharing points of view. :)

His class was a nightmare. Though it's not a writing intensive course he treated it as such. Very hard to please and most of the students were more knowledgible about his films than he was. I think he means well but professors like him should not be teaching. Very hard grader, has an attitude, and a bit on the weird side. Try to avoid his classes!

Slater is definitely a little out there. He thinks he is funny when he really isn't, but his class was really easy. There were no tests just a few papers. They were all very easy to write. The final was to take two of your previously written papers and make them better to turn in as a portfolio. Super easy, I would take him again

This class was horrible. I dreaded every time i went to class because i never learned anything and he was so unclear and hard to understand. He did not have a clear grading system at all and was very squirrely. It was a pointless class and i hated it!

This teacher is really nice. He cares and tries to tolerate our comments--don't beat him up for being open-minded! Yes, he can be confusing or nervous at times, but he is clear about the essays. Talk to him or send him an email. He will help you! He is great!

Worst professer ever. You'll learn nothing in his class besides opinions of other students. He'll ask what you think and then just say "yeah, mhmmm, right" throughout semester. Huge workload and didn't follow syllabus. Almost no grading system; very vague on what he wants in writings. Almost impossible to understand anything he trys to communicate.

Your going to have a better chance banging your head against the desk and letting the blood hit the papers your going to turn into him than understanding what it is he wants from you.

Pretty incompetent. Arbitrary in his grading and almost stubbornly unclear. Wishy-washy in his assignments/expectations. Seems unsure and self-conscious in front of the classroom, as if he's trying to prove himself. Pretty hard to learn from, pretty frustrating. Don't take him.

I had this professor some years ago, while working on my doctorate. I still remember him with fondness. Brilliant, funny -- a strong command of his subject matter. Fascinating character, and actually very personable. I learned so much from him -- my interests and my teaching were greatly influenced by Dr. Slater.

Jimmy Stewart class was interesting. Worksheets, two essays, and a big group project on a movie. Professor Slater is a little wacky, but he is pretty easy going.

1.Didn't really like the book choices. We had a lot to read in very few days. For example if you didn't read ahead you would have a whole book to read in two days 2.Four easy essays that are very irritating but not hard to write. Despite the class mostly being about what you think. 3.Does a lot of group work. Most people in your group don't read.

These is a great professor. Very personal with students. Knows everyones name. Graded on 3 easy essay, notebook, and posting 8 1 paragraph comments online. This class has a lot of novels, but its pretty easy stuff, watch movies, and discusses everything so even if u dont read u can still do decent. I would def. take him again.
