She is a great teacher. She explained things well. Even though we were in an accelerated summer class, we learned everything. Just like most classes, if you study, you will do well. You can't expect to do well without studying. She is very nice and wants to help people learn.

I took 8 week 101 and 102. first time learners- do NOT attempt. She's very funny, very french, definitely a little disorganized, but she knows the culture and language, though her accent is hard to understand sometimes and when you don't get a concept, she has a hard time explaining it a different way. She's great, but I'd form a study group.

I took the 8 week class with Graves and it was quite an experience. I really enjoyed the class. What you need to do as a student to do well is GO TO CLASS, DO THE HOMEWORK, and ASK QUESTIONS. She is very helpful and she is very patient. I had a wonderful experience with her.

She doesn't like to follow a syllabus which is alright with me, I just wish she expected more from her students.Homework and vocab quizzes would do me a lot of good but she doesn't seem to use either.You can get into some interesting conversations with her if you try, just get over your shyness if its a problem for you and you'll learn a thing two.

DO YOURSELF A FAVOR! JUST TAKE ANOTHER PROFESSOR! She is so disorganized, erratic attendance, syllabus always changed,tests weren't even what we studied. Hard to understand and rude when asked questions. That about sums up my experience.

Forget those easy grades you got in French 101. She's tough! Her accent is somewhat hard to understand. It's distracting to learn french when she can not speak english with out her strong accent! This is not a class where you can sit and do nothing. If you want a good grade you have to work hard for it. Lazy people, beware!

flaky teacher. doesnt care about teaching. since shes a native speaker she is cocky and expects you to know french like she does. she does teach stuff but if you dont get it the first time, you can ask her the second time but she doesnt make it any clearer for you. take another class

She is one of the worst professors I have ever had in six years of college-level education. She never grades anything but tests but threatens to grade homework, participation, and projects. However, she only allowed about 2/3 the class to present before we ran out of time. In two semesters of French, I have yet to learn how to speak French.

Did not folow her syllabus. Textbook was crap except for the grammar resources at the end. Quizzes weren't too bad, I had to study a lot. Her grading was a bit wacky as she didn't follow the syllabus. In the end, she is very nice and encouraging but that doesn't make up for being unorganized and unclear at times.

This is my second time taking her, and it was amazing. I love the way she teaches, and she is very helpful. Her pet peeves are people that don't do the homework, and the ones that consistently late. The class is broken down 25% into these four: (tests/quizzes, oral pres., attendance, hw. By the way, she rewards effort if you know what I mean.

Prof. Graves is a native French speaker so she knows what she is teaching. If you pay attention in class and you study the book, you will do well in this class. She had a few moments when she was a bit 'snippy', but all in all she is a good teacher. She is willing to help out if you need it, all you have to do is ask.

I thought Prof. Graves was great. Her native language is French, and so it makes the class a lot more interesting to hear her personal history and experiences living there. Tests are somewhat challenging and spread out. YOU have to take initiative is doing your homework and studying as much as you need to, depending on your skill level.

I couldn't ask for a better teacher. She is willing to teach those willing to learn. She is so helpful, funny, and an excellent choice for first timers taking a language class. She really cares if you care, and has a wonderful personality. I plan to take her again for French 102. She is great, so don't believe all the negative comments.

I'm going to admit it, I think I'm a slacker. This teaher however is wonderful in every way. Professor Graves is very flexible and accomodating. If you failed her class or had a hard time it was your own fault because you didn't bother to put any effort. So yeah, I got an A, so can anyone. Take her!

The tests are standardized, I highly doubt she even looks at them before handing them out in class. She has no rubric as to how she grades on the tests. Class itself is a complete bore and mindless activity. Do yourself a favor: get another teacher.

I have taken a good amount of language teachers before. Houria Graves is horrible. She is unclear in her explanations, class is a waste of time (if you read the book yourself, its basically waht she does). She plays favorites, and has those she dislikes - whom she preys consistently.

She is the worst teacher!!!! She is never there and then when she is she doesn't know what the hell she's doing. Completely disorganized. takes forever to get grades in. And the worst part is shes head of the department!!! She SUCKS!!!!!!!!
