I had the pleasure of taking Dr. Ferris's class four years ago when completing my M.A. TESOL. Now I teach at a university, and I have to say that I still refer back to Dr. Ferris's textbook from time to time to keep myself centered. What I learned in her Pedagogy of Reading/Writing courses really helped become a good instructor. Thanks!

Well, she thinks she's pretty great, anyway. I'll chalk up another complaint about the portfolio being sadistic, and about how boring it is to have a professor who just reads the power point slides. I am a fully capable reader, myself, and would be much quicker about it than she is. Funny to have a grad seminar that's actually a lecture class!

She was so easy the work wasn't hard at all - her lectures are boring and she jus reads srt8 from her notes but the work is easy so are the quizzes - no tests. Lots of group work - so its hard not to pass her pass. I liked her, thought she was funny. Little to no feedback on your work but if your just ther for a grade - you'll like her

I agree with the person who said the portfolio was sadistic! That's an understatement. All the assignments were piled on the second half of the semester rather than evenly spaced. She gave no feedback on my writing other than "good job." Very boring!

I like Ferris on a personal level, but found that her method of teaching really irks me. She has these overheads that she puts on. Then she reads from the overheads for the rest of the class. I could read from the overheads myself and do it faster; it takes her all period. Nice person, though.

I had Dr. Ferris for a variety of graduate classes for my TESOL degree. I felt that her classes were very practical and she was always helpful. She was a great role model, and I use many of her techniques today as a teacher. I highly recommend her graduate courses, that is where her true love is.

Professor Ferris is very nice. She's funny too! Her 125B class was extreeeeeeemley boring. Her portfolio assigment is downright sadistic. Expecting you to keep every single note and scribble over 3 months and then putting it all into a folder. Total Joke. Take her for anything but 125B

The class was ok. Lectures were dull and we seemed to be a pretty low priority in her teaching schedule. Portfolio is extremely self-paced so keep up with the work or come the end of the semester you'll be sorry.

Dr. Ferris is an excellent professor. Her lectures reinforce the reading, and she assignments and tests are fair.

She is nice, but she doesn't stay on topic. She does a lot of bragging about herself and her children. Her lectures do not go beyond reading off the handouts. Very, very boring and a ton of assignments piled on at the end.

She does not add any new information when lecturing--straight from the text. Fails to provide enough strategies for new teachers to cope with issues in the classroom. Felt she talked too much about personal issues and not enough about teacher-related issues.
