If you enjoy spending countless hours each week (at least 12 outside of class) teaching yourself what he could teach you in 30 minutes (but won't), being talked down to for asking questions (that you won't get a clear answer to), and being gaslit, you should definitely take this class. In-class quizzes each week.

I Had Dr. Hood for FIN 5352, and it was one of the worst experiences I ever had. First, he gives minimal direction for his spreadsheet assignments and requires his students to submit them before lecturing over the material. Then, he asks you to teach yourself, locks his Excel Spreadsheets, and does not provide answers to his assignments.

Professor Hood is a genuinely nice guy, but a friend described it best as Drinking from a Fire-Hose. It's challenging fast paced work, that will push you weekly. The work is more like a financial puzzle than the clear cut stuff of undergrad. If you keep up, you'll have a serious advantage in finance, but expect 6-12 hrs a week outside of class.

Comment:
This class is extremely difficult but Hood grades the entire class on a curve. There are projects due almost every Sunday but the lectures help if you send them to yourself at the end of class. There are in class quizzes the week after projects are due. I honestly should be failing, but he cares about his students and I have a B in the class.

I would take him again in a heartbeat. The best Professor Texas State has in the Finance Dept! His class is fun and easy to understand! He is always willing to help you. He is extremely passionate about what he is teaching and definitely rubs off on you. I am so happy I took his class! I've learned so much with him!

He obviously cares about teaching his students. I was worried because I heard his class was extremely hard. I'm far from the brightest but feel like he really did a good job of teaching. I think he has adapted his class in the past few semesters to better reach students and it shows. I would take more of his classes if offered.

This class is a lot of work, but I also learned more in this class than any other during my MBA due to his high expectations. Read. Participate in class. Learn as much from him as far as excel goes, because it's incredibly applicable in the real world. It's not easy, but an A is very attainable if you apply yourself.

I feel like I could read the text book 10 times a day and still not be able to get a good grade on the HW/assignments/assessments that he asks of you. In class he goes really fast and it's difficult to pick everything up. Heavy excel usage. Examples in class aren't that close to the assignments, which makes them difficult to perfect.

Dr. Hood is not as bad as his reputation, but you have to be willing to work hard and do a lot on your own. He says he looks for "signs of intelligence" in his class, so being smart definitely helps here. The class average was 86 so most students did alright. However, if you really want to avoid him then you will have to take this class in summer.

He goes through everything pretty quick but if you take him for 3312 he'll set up a nice foundation for finance and make classes after this one seem easy. Hw is frustrating but get in groups with people and you'll get through. He keeps class interesting and is quick with numbers so if you can keep up take it with him.

Do NOT take this guy for Finance. I ended up using the homework's from another professors class to study, because the material this professor gives out is useless and is not returned. He purposefully makes his exams extremely difficult and ends up having to curve everything. Take anyone else. Your GPA will be better AND you will learn more.

Class is unorganized and confusing. Grading is totally subjective. There seem to be no right/wrong answers just based on whether or not he likes you. Take anyone else for this class.

Worst education experience of my entire life. I understood what was going while in class, but homeworks just made everything confusing. When you have to constantly curve all of the grades by ten or more points just keep passing grades, maybe you should rethink your game plan. Take anybody else for FIN3312!

He talks very quickly but if you ask questions, will go to great lengths to answer them. go to class and do hw and with no studying, you will make a B. he is really goofy but i would take him again for sure. tests are pretty easy but the hw is frustrating

When over half the class is failing, it becomes evident the problem isn't caused by the students. I recommend taking any other professor for finance over him.
