Prof. Hillis is a great man, very helpful in the class room as well as outside the class room. Can come off pretty abrasive, but really has a good heart and cares about students. He has helped me in so many ways, I'm so glad he has been my adviser. If you get a chance take a class with him. Prof. Hillis is easily top 3 best prof.s at the Bury....

One of my best friends died over the summer before I had his class. When I approached him as using my story as a potential topic for my informative speech, he literally laughed and called it a "Jello Speech." I was obviously offended. From that point on I cant take anything he says in class seriously. And he will never admit to being wrong.

Where to start - Picks favorites, rude, acts as though a freshman speech class is a big deal. In love with himself - one too many stories about growing up in China. Soon I will have my Ph.D and I can write him and remind him what a jerk he was, giving me a D when I missed three classes in a row due to mono. Didn't care that I had a doc's note!

It's tough to get all the material down in class because he goes through his slides so fast. He tries to be funny but isn't. Pretty intimidating when it comes to your presentations - be ready and be sharp. There is also speculation that he tends to grade guys alot tougher for some reason.

Great man. Already knew he was a great prof, but he's even better once you get to know him outside of a classroom setting. Cares about students, willing to go the extra mile with them (literally). Makes no bones about what he expects from you, a great quality in this day and age. Highly recommended.

Great prof. Loves his students. Some lectures a bit difficult, and several projects and presentations due in his class, but tests are significantly easier than they could be, given the amount of material. Make sure if you're doing something in a tongue-in-cheek fashion during a presentation, that he realizes what you're doing. Take him!

Steve is great. I'm a Comm. major so I appreciate the subject matter more. Our Intro. to Comm. class sucks no matter who teaches it. There is way too much material to cover in it. He is very open and involves the class in lots of discussions though his questions are sometimes hard to answer.

Dr. Hillis loves to teach and if you love to learn he is a great professor to take. He's not the easiest professor within this department, but sometimes we all need a little challenge in our studies. If you're serious about this subject..take him for as

Lectuers were scatterbrained and non congruent, he did not seam to mind contradicting him self and often celebrated such. His insucuriaty and small mindedness often distroyed potential inclass discussion

Dr. Hillis seems to have unattainable standards as to what students simply fulfilling a gen ed requirement need to know. He definitely picks favorites so kiss his butt and you might fare better.
