He is full of energy and enthusiasm every single class even if it is online. He has a very organized way of teaching these introductory classes of aural perception and is always organized with what is expected of you and when things are due. Sometimes he made things due on Sundays at noon which personally was very inconvenient. He's a great prof :)

This class can be challenging for individuals, but I found the way that he presents the material to be very effective and easy to understand. This was asynchronous and so trying to cram half a unit into a couple of days is stressful, I did it many times but I don't recommend. He always gives you feedback and it VERY organized on blackboard!

Dr. Norris is a fine example of a very good teacher. He is one of the best people I've ever met, and he is your biggest supporter, not to mention he is an all around cool guy. The subject he teaches is very very difficult but he is understanding and willing to work with you no matter what.

The nature of the class is difficult (sight singing is really freaking difficult), but Dr. Norris does everything in his power to make it bearable. He gives extra credit and rewards hard work over perfection. That being said, his grading scale makes A's almost impossible to get. Expect to pass, but not to ace.

Want to pass Aural Perception? PRACTICE. PRACTICE. PRACTICE. Norris is an awesome professor who is amazing at conducting and teaching. His sound before symbol approach is how I believe music at every level should be taught. One thing I hated was that he is very political and would get into religious/political discussions during class time w/ us.

An extremely intelligent and capable teacher. If you are an Education Major he can be your biggest supporter so get on his good side and he will move hell to help you. He can get into ruts where he is in a bad mood anywhere from a day to a week, but he always cares about his students. Great teacher and a huge reason why GV's program is so great.

If you are a MusEd major, get on his good side and stay there because you will see him a lot. He can be grouchy and he likes to talk about himself and tell long stories during class. He is very smart and knows a lot about teaching music. Overall he is a great professor and he is willing to go out of his way to help students.

Prof. Norris is an absolutely incredible teacher. He has tons of experience, is very methodical and organized, explains things clearly, and is a fantastic musician himself. He takes things slow at first, and random discussions sometimes waste class time, but things will get difficult quickly. He is always willing to help, use his office hours!

He's a God of music education. He has made his life's work a study of how to teach music as efficiently and flawlessly as possible from the ground up, and I have never felt as competent as I do having had taken his class. He's gotten to the point where his teaching is so clear that you will get back 200% the work you do for him in competence. LOVE.

Dr. Norris is very funny and cares a lot about the subject. He is very knowledgeable and goes to great lengths to make sure that his students learn the material, including extra help sessions and private student tutors. If you're on the pass/fail line, and you have made an effort, he'll let you pass. Only complaint: Picks favorites.

Doc Norris is a talented educator. I've had him for Sec.Methods, VMEN, and Aural Perception. If you don't pick his brain then you are wasting time as a Music Major. If you treat him with respect he will pay you back in kind. Go to class. Only a few criticisms: He frequently gets off topic, and doesn't respond to emails well. Track him down when he'
