Comment:
I think this prof is used to teaching higher level english courses so this class was not good. There was a paper every week and he graded SO hard. I would say Im a good writer and I found it very difficult to succeed in this class. Hes very sarcastic which can come off as rude sometimes. Pick a different english course.

Professor Leitch is one of a kind. He knows what he's talking about, but can be a tad condescending, especially when grading your papers which can be extremely annoying. However, it's one day a week and only 5, 2-page papers the entire semester. Not too bad, definitely doable just pay attention

Comment:
Don't take this class, not because his essays are unclear and not because the class is extremely boring and 4 HOURS long, but because Leitch believes that the movies he picks are thought provoking- however they're about dead dogs and cut up eyes. 5 assignments that are unclear and you'll want to leave seconds after entering- awful class w NO VALUE

Leitch is hilarious. If you're into sarcasm and irony, he's your guy. More importantly, he's a fantastic teacher. You will come out of his class as a better writer and critical thinker. He lets you revise all papers, and gives you a week to do so. Exams are hard, but not highly weighted. I think everyone should take him.

Fun class. Pay vague attention and you don't need notes. Knows more about movies than you do. Don't be afraid to be publicly humiliated. It is very hard to do well on papers but it will make you a better writer.

One of the finest professors I've ever been fortunate to have. Taught me how to write. One of the top professors at Yale when I had him there as well. Hard but fair. Most importantly, he's brilliant. Now that I'm in Los Angeles and a screenwriter, people here refer to him all the time and with good reason, his work is extraordinary. Miss him still.

Okay class, not super easy but a B isn't too hard to achieve. Gives good feedback on papers, but is very specific about what he is looking for in a paper.

Definitely one of the better English professors I have had. He is crystal clear in his comments on papers. A new experience for me. He really teaches you how to write, and is a wonderful person on top of that. Love the sarcasm, and the fact that he sincerely cares about his students. Offers revisions on papers--highly recommend!! You'll learn a lot

This class wasn't what I expected, but I enjoyed it. He's very funny (he seems to offend some people, but I never had an issue with him), and the discussions make you think. It probably won't be an easy A, but an A or B is not out of the question. Assignments were 5 short papers, which we were allowed to rewrite. Definitely recommend.

I was quite disappointed with this course. Dr. Leitch is a very quick, witty man and I was expecting good things, but he just doesn't seem to care much about the students. Our TAs grade all of our papers and tests, so Dr. Leitch just talks and assigns. He seems uninterested in his students and their lives, which is a shame.

War films would've been my last choice for a film studies class, but Prof. Leitch made them fun and informative. Keeps the class on its toes with his killer wit. Written papers consist of short film critiques which aren't hard to knock out for your grade. Good advisor as well--take him.

He's very funny like all the other comments have stated. It's not a tortuous class--it's not boring and time seems to fly. My criticism is that you barely take any notes in class because discussions are all meta and not useful. Too tough a grader for an intro class. Take if you like film and like discussions, otherwise avoid if you want an easy A.

I couldn't have asked for a better professor for my first film course. The material itself was very confusing but he tried his best to make it easier to understand. His undying need to make fun of the students, himself, and everyone else makes the class fun and entertaining. Take any course he teaches, you will enjoy it and learn a lot.

Dr. Leitch taught me more about writing than anyone before or since. He can be a little intimidating but it's just a facade-- he's so sweet and helpful. And go to his office hours, he tends to offer snacks. Talking over paper topics with him before writing really helped me!
