Comment:
Taking higher level courses with Freeman is definitely the way to go. He loves smaller classes and really talking and getting to know the students and their opinions. If you do the readings and participate you can skip a few classes and a few essays and still get an A.

Professor Freeman led highly intellectual discussions, but as long you keep up with the readings you should do fine in class and on essays. There are reading checks for every assignment. Readings aren't terrible, but most are very religious. Overall I had a good experience in the class.

Comment:
Class attendance and reading is a must in his class. Count on being called on to participate and having the answer he wants ringed out of you. However, despite all of this, he does make himself very available for office hours and help. Makes subtlety offensive remarks. Expect to give very detailed and precise answers if you hope to pass his class.

As long as you get on his good side, you will do fine in his class. He likes people to participate in class and will often call on you so make sure you are prepared when you come to class. He usually cancels class a few times a semester and doesn't give a final.

British Writers with Freeman is all poetry, just so you know. He expects you to be really specific on the short answer part of his exams...you need to be able to quote the poetry. We had a weekly response due on Spark every Sunday at noon, which was really inconvenient. Also, he calls on you randomly in class which is scary.

If you are not a straight, white male, there is not a good chance of you hitting it off, and if you don't, you're screwed. Calls on people without them raising their hands and yells at you if you don't have a good answer when he does so. Find any other teacher you possibly can! He publicly embarrasses anyone that clashes with his views.

Extremely rude professor, fine if you hit it off with him, but if you skip homework, watch out- the first week of class he made a girl almost cry. He's a very mean man but pretends to be cheerful. Definitely do not recommend, but manageable class if you have a good plan of attack.

Hes a really intelligent man, but as far as teaching goes, you're going to have to make it alone. The class time is spent going around the room to talk about the text, specific stories are assigned to each person and you have to teach the class. Not really one to explain himself, he basically comments on your own deductions.

If you dont want to do the readings, or draw conclusions that aren't spoonfed to you, or come to class every day, Freeman isn't the prof. for you. That being said, his humor is not appreciated by people who are struggling in the class and he doesn't let anyone just coast through. But if you ask for help, he'll sit down and work with you. Good guy.

grading is arbitrary so you're probably ok if you hit it off with him. don't wear anything ou of the ordinary or with a brand name on it bc he might give you a hard time about it in front of the whole class -- there are way better teachers out there for this class, if you can take it with someone else please do so

if you are a white straight male -- take the class. Otherwise watch out. If he doesn't like you, then carefully add up all the points on your quizes because he may "forget" to add some.

Comment:
He thinks that his **** and homophobic comments are funny -- they tend to be offensive. He doesn't do much teaching, just asking the class what they liked/didn't like about the reading. He looks for really specific things when grading exams -- so your answer can be legitamately correct, but not "correct enough" or "the right kind of correct".

Very nice guy. Calls on anyone and everyone. Likes to put you on the spot, but pushes you to state your opinion and back up your ideas with evidence. Hard exams. He goes through the roster and asks people what they thought of the texts for basically the entire period. As a professor, I would recommend him for this dreadful Engl requirement.

Freeman is one of the most knowledgeable professors I have had, and he transmits his knowledge very well. Even with a class that is three times as large as it should be he does well. His insistence that students respond to the works is great. Students have to be involved in their own education. I wish we had three hour classes.

He is a very hard grader for English students, expects a lot out of you. Has a great personality, seems to care about all students. Not very clear on how the grading system works. You leave the class without knowing how you've done until you get your grades.
