I can't believe all of the bad ratings. By far the best professor that I had at OSU. In fact, the only one I really remember 14 years after graduating. His lessons impacted my writing style and skills and have had a lasting impact. Great guy with dry/sarcastic sense of humor. Follow directions, get to the point in your writing, and go to class.

If you do all the work, I feel like you are almost guaranteed an A. And there is a ton of extra credit opportunities. He seems gruff, but he really cares. Do not use your phone during class, he will kick you out.

Promotes writing papers to an unreasonable standard, or else you'll easily get a zero. The grade deductions are not for the content, but rather the silly criteria he has for them, like word count and formatting. Ridiculous group projects that require classes missed. But, miss one of his classes and risk missing up to three quizzes. Hypocrite prof!

Truly one of the best instructors I've had in my 4 years of university. Shame to see some many negative comments. Yes it's tough and he has his rules, especially the specifics when it comes to the CT papers. Most wont think its applicable to everyday life but the point is to get you to put in the work even if it may seem unnecessary.

Because of how picky he was, I had to withdraw from the class. His critical thinking papers were worth a ton of points, and I spent hours working on mine, but because I didn't put page numbers in my citations, I got a zero. He makes you do a big group project and because I had to do one that took place on a thursday, I had to miss other classes.

He is a guilt monger, and I've never seen a professor more hateful of his students than he is. He once called campus security on a student because she refused to be kicked out of the class for using her phone. The classwork is questionable at best and highly politicized for no good reason. Doesn't use canvas, so it is really easy to miss a detail.

Great Professor, taught with a very old school like feel. Legitimately loved and was passionate about the subject, sustainability. Was easy to tell through his lectures that he is truly passionate about sustainability and that he lives everyday with sustainability and what he can do to make the world a better place. Gave a lot of Extra Credit.

The class has a lot of work, but it isn't hard There are specific guidelines and expectation for papers, and if you follow them, you'll have no problem. He also gives numerous opportunities for extra credit. The content of the class makes it worth the work.

Useless group project. Daily readings for a possible pop quiz (which is also your attendance). Three papers due that have such strict standards you will spend more time formatting than researching them. It is literally impossible to get an A on those papers. I got 84% and went to ask how to improve, and was told it was the highest grade allowed??

This class should be enjoyable, but it was not. There are daily pop quizzes based on preassigned readings. Woe to you if you did not memorize the exact details he decides to include in the quiz. There are also three papers with rigid rules used to automatically fail students if not followed exactly. This promotes anxiety, not learning.

I've heard the other teacher of this course is a lot better. I spent waaaay more time trying to please him via the ridiculous format requirements of his papers than I actually spent researching the topic. I was in a car accident and asked for an extension one time on one paper (explaining the situation) and nope. would not take his course again.

This class was so amazing and inspirational! Steven Cook makes an incredible job to give us a wide view, sometimes pessimistic and sometimes more optimistic, about our world and the major environmental issues it's facing today. Yes, there is a lot of work (quiz, readings, papers) but it's the price to pay for whoever wants a good quality education.

This class is great! If you are taking less than 12 credits. This pretentious hippy will eat up most all of your free time for the term with pointless service projects. The papers seem easy, but a well written one will be tossed out if it a single sentence too long. I never knew what fascism really meant until I took this class.

If you take Dr. Cooks class expect to read A LOT. He is pretty intimidating, although he doesn't think so. He will gladly give you his opinion if he disagrees, and this class is all about how we are killing the Earth so get ready for some depressing lectures. No exams but there is 3 papers and daily quizzes. Easy to pass but wouldn't take it again

Steve cares a lot about sustainability and in this class his opinion based on his experiences. I thought his class was great, and his lectures were interesting. The paper structure was intense, but the 60 points extra credit balances them out. Overall he cares a lot about the world and wants to share that with everyone.

Comment:
Steve is a good guy. People who complain about him are butt hurt on the fact that the man speaks his mind and the truth on controversial topics (global warming, energy usage, how Americans are spoiled) and that they don't agree. He requires a lot but only because he wants you to actually learn. Show up with a good attitude and you'll do fine.
