Comment:
Lectures are useless and very disorganized. You have to teach yourself the material. Just read the textbook and skip lectures. The lectures will only confuse you unnecessarily.

You have to read the textbook before class and the tests are short answer application about that material. The actual class time helps to understand material, but might seem unessential. He assigns specific cases to each person and volunteering for unclaimed ones help your participation grade. Meakin really cares and wants to get to know us.

Dr. Meakin uses his lectures to use volunteers in various example scenarios. His lectures are very dependent on you having read the textbook before class, don't expect to get thorough definitions on concepts from just lecture. His exams are free response, so you have to understand concepts pretty well. Class is doable if you read and participate.

His class is not as structured as your usual class. You're graded on a group paper, a personal paper, and two exams. Since it's an online right now, test are taken with open notes and it's just short answers. Super heavy reading the textbook chapters are dense and with a lot of information. However, the class is pretty easy b/c he grades leniently.

Comment:
1. His lecture slides are abysmal. If someone tried to use them in a corporate setting, they would be fired immediately. 2. He is disorganized and there is no clear grading criteria for anything. 3. He has legit said things in office hours that contradicted the textbook; he has no idea what he's doing. 4. He wastes class time on irrelevant stories

I took Business Law (LEB 323) with Professor Meakin during the Fall 2019 semester. Professor Meakin cares a lot about his students, not just as students, but as people. He likes to tell important personal stories to his class, which I really enjoyed. As for the class, you gotta read that Business Law textbook, let's just say that.

Idk who decided to give this man a good review but they're wrong. He won't post lecture slides and is the only professor not to have open note/book LEB tests. He will cold call and roast you. He is eccentric which could be seen as entertaining but his lectures are basically pointless. Tests are all based on the book even the smallest of details.

Professor Meakin was hands down my favorite college professor. His lectures were always so entertaining and I always left class fired up. I'm considering law school now because of him. Highly recommend- best LEB prof there is!

I loved Meakin's class. He does talk a lot but it was usually relevant to the lecture such as his experiences as a lawyer. My only complaint would be the amount of reading I had to do but other than that it was a fantastic class. You only have one paper and two tests plus participation but he curves so it usually isn't too bad.

Meakin is by far the best & nicest professor I've ever had. His lectures are very engaging and although the material in the book is a lot, he makes it enjoyable with his sense of humor. On the day of the final I woke up extremely late and arrived 15 minutes before the exam was supposed to be over but he still let me take the exam! 10/10 recommend!

It's important to read as much as you can for this class, but his lectures are so good you if you pay attention well enough you'll pass no problem. He calls you out and gives real life examples of anything you may or may not understand. Best lecturer I've had at UT thus far.

I never leave reviews on this site but had to for Meakin because he is just that great. The class material itself is dry but Meakin makes it so easy to understand and enjoyable. His lectures are amazing and he makes the concepts incredibly clear by giving examples. You can bring a cheat sheet, front and back, to his midterms and theyre VERY EASY.

His classes were entertaining and helpful in understanding the material. He has professional experience with the subject, so he knows it well. The book was pretty overwhelming and dense, but the questions on his tests aren't overly specific. He also has an interesting appeal to him that I can't really figure out. I enjoyed the class.
