She's the coolest prof, but you have to work for what she gives you. Also make sure you do your readings when she assigns them, or she penalizes the class. Just gotta show up and do your work- she doesn't expect much else

She is a great person to talk to in terms of help. Her class is very interesting and if you're interested in African Americans in the quest for political freedom, it's for you.

She obviously knowledgeable about what she'd teaching. She's engaging and enthusiastic. She discusses reading extensively in class and is pretty clear about what will be on exams. Discusses race and gender, but tells you that right at the beginning of the semester- no surprises. Overall, a good teacher.

She is a very interesting woman! She has a ton to offer and has been a great help as my adviser. Her randomness makes studying for exams and writing papers hard.

Can't work a computer, so that cause many class delays. Gets off topic, but it's interesting. LOTS of thick reading with odd formatted exams

TERRIBLE professor. Avoid at all costs. She is horrible with technology, yet used powerpoint for all the lectures. We usually got through a few slides a day. Terribly boring and not welcoming. Tests are not good measures of the material, little class discussion, everyone just surfs facebook. AVOID HER.

Comment:
While she seems like a knowledgeable person, her strength is clearly not in teaching. Her voice is monotone; it sounds like she's reciting facts. The textbook readings are long and often extremely in-depth for a 105 class, and she covers a lot of the key points in the reading in her lectures (if you can pay attention).

Comment:
She expects her students to read upwards of 100 pages of dense, textbook reading per week, but she does not hold herself to the same rigorous standard. She shows up late, and is an inconsistent grader. She is obviously knowledgeable on the subject matter, but I wish she would spend a little more time on how she teaches the class.

I transferred from UR, but I would have to say that Professor Sinclair-Chapman is an excellent professor. She is a savant in her field, intelligent, eloquent, insightful, and dedicated. Also, her approach to the topic of race is veracious.

Stimulated good discussion, didn't let people get away with just spouting off on things, even if she may have agreed with what they were saying. Interested in students, maybe a bit too easy with grading.

Thinks everything in the world is about race. Can't admit that there are other views than her own. And told me that I was wrong, because i disagreed with her.

The problem with Rochester students is that they want to bury their heads in the sand and pretend that race doesn't exist. At least she is bringing an important issue to the forefront that no one else has the guts to discuss frankly (i.e. the admin.)
