Comment:
I had Scovell for 4 classes. At first, I hated him, but he's really not that bad once you figure out how he works. READ THE SYLLABUS! He's vague in class but not in the syllabus. Partcipate and banter with him and even if you're stupid, you'll pass. The more the class partcipates, the more easy going he is. All he wants is effort.

Scovell can get a bad rep. But I genuinely love having him as a professor. He is funny, and willing to help. Yes, sometimes assignments come out of no where, but if you pay attention and are actually nice to him, youll be fine. Hes easy to get along with and hes very kind. Ive had him for a few classes and would take him again. Hes great.

Don't take him unless you have to. He preaches about organization and timeliness in class but does the complete opposite. Syllabus is extremely vague but he will still grade you harshly and act like you should have known what he expected. I genuinely don't know what he gets paid for because he isn't making beneficial class plans or grading work.

Read the book because that's where some of his test comes from. He can come off rude with his dry sense of humor, but he is nice. He's lectures are boring unless you ask questions or just talk to him about the subject he's lecturing about. He grades things at the last minute aka the end of the semester and his directions can be unclear.

If you have to take this professor, I would still advise dropping the class and finding another professor next semester, or Try a summer or winter class?!?!?!

Nice but directions are INCREDIBLY unclear, I was stressed out every single class from all of the little assignments that pop up out of no where, he has one major assignment due at the end of the semester on a program thats only available in that classroom but never gives you time to work on it & takes forever to grade, just avoid his class.

He is a cool guy. He goes kind of fast so just be ready to follow along. He is very helpful when you have questions. There are quizzes just about every class meeting so make sure to read the assigned chapter before hand!!

Great guy. Hard proffesor. He takes some getting used to but once you get the hang of it he isn't bad. He gives a lot of quizzes in class and he doesn't tell you when they're coming. He also isn't the most clear on instructions.

Here's the deal, his lectures will bore you to sleep. Everything is out of the textbook. There will be moments when he sighs or makes smart ass comments under his breath; just go with it. He's a nice and will make a lot of dad jokes, laugh at them it makes him feel better. He can be sassy at times and unclear with directions.

He teaches directly from the textbook and all tests are on book and multiple choice, but quite difficult. I had a hard time figuring out what I was supposed to do for the assignments because they were never clear.

Interesting outlook on things and funny as well. Powerpoint lectures however are useless. You have to pay attention to what he says and reading the textbook is critical if you want to pass. He is also a late

Scovell is a nice guy but an awful professor. He would post assignments in MyClasses but never enter the grades, he creates assignments last minute and acts like we were all supposed to know, he doesn't follow the syllabus AT ALL, he doesn't allow any make ups even if you have a doctor's note, and he is not helpful. He set his students up to fail.

Do not take this class., it isn't enjoyable at all. I took Communications thinking it would be an easier class, but ended up barely getting an A. He does not state when assignments are due, and then a week before its due he will act like he had already told you. His powerpoints are extremely difficult to follow

He's a good guy, I enjoyed talking with him and he does teach some valuable information, although sometimes it is buried between activities that seem elementary. We only had several assignments in the course and they were graded harshly in perspective of the information that he taught. He is also the epitome of "my way or the highway" thinking.

Probably most confusing course I've taken! We spent half the semester doing tutorials that don't teach you anything and then when we moved into the independent work, his grading was arbitrary, subjective to his opinion and flat out slow. Do your work and you'll pass but he'll give you a headache 98% of the semester

All he does is lecture. You barely do any actual public relations writing and never get grades back on projects. Most of the projects are group ones and he doesn't follow the syllabus schedule. Super boring and not a beneficial class at all.

I've had Scovell for 4 classes and he is my favorite here at SU. He is extremely helpful and wants to see you succeed. He WILL NOT fail you if you try. His clicker quizzes can be tough and you will have to read, but the textbooks really aren't terrible and all of the classes I've taken with him have been worth it. I recommend him to all!
