YOU HAVE TO PARTICIPATE. Dr. Spaulding seems like a nice guy but he gets very upset if no one is participating. Requires textbook but rarely talks in detail about stories, just general concepts. Also impossible to reach outside of class and ignores the chat on Zoom. Assignments aren't too bad. Weekly reactions and discussion boards and 2 papers.

Winter Sess. Three mini papers and a major paper due at the end of each week and is due the following week. He's heavy on participation, so be ACTIVE during text discussion. Spaulding gives amazing feedback on your papers and will actually steer you in the right direction. He's super kind and caring. Come to class active and prepared!

This is a terrible professor. He takes participation too seriously, picks novels that are not interesting at all, and makes this a discussion class more than a writing class. Do not take this course if you don't like participating in class and talking. There is a final project that requires acting out a scene from a play. Again, not writing.

Show up and participate, its easy. We simply just talk about what we read for 75 minutes and are graded on our participation, 3 essays, and 2 journals. He seemed to be a tough grader for a class of non english majors and also never responds to emails ever. But, overall nice guy, and a very easy class. Do the readings and show up to class.

This class is legit just book club-do the reading, share your thoughts, and you'll get an A! Professor Spaulding always wants to hear your thoughts, whether he agrees or not, and is always trying to find ways to make the class interesting. Three short easy papers and a take home final. Good experience!

Loved Prof Spaulding and def one of my favorite professors here at UD. Took this course as a breadth and am really glad I did. Hes one of the most respectful professors Ive had who isnt afriad to talk about certain subjects without overstepping boundaries. Make sure to participate in class every so often. 3 essays and an easy take-home final!

Quite simply, best English professor I've had at UD. There's a lot of group work so you get to know your classmates and the lectures are AMAZING. He certainly sparked my creativity. Reading selections are good and I would recommend getting involved in the class discussions. Not an easy grader, but not overly tough either. Truly great professor.

He is very helpful outside the classroom and makes the lectures amusing :) I definitely want to take another class with him! TAKE THIS CLASS!

A very good teacher. Class participation is a must if you want a decent grade. A few papers, a midterm, and a final paper. He tries to make it interesting by switching from lecture to guest speakers to opening the floor to students. It is not an easy A, but he makes the class interesting.

Best professor I've ever had. I'm not an english major but I was able to completely appreciate what he taught. He is incredibly enthusiastic when approached for help or advice so writing papers becomes a fun experience. The short stories, novels, and films we watched for class were incredibly interesting and made me think out side the box.

Tims a pretty cool guy and one of the best profs ive had at UD. I wasnt particularly interested in the class at first, but he makes the time fly by. Attendance is mandatory, but besides 3 papers there arent many other grades. Awesome class, just keep up with the work and go to office hours if youre lazy and fall behind!

Dr. Spaulding is my favorite professor at UD. I had him for ENGL 101 and took him again for ENGL 102 because I liked him so much. Class is discussion based, and he's truly interested in what every student has to say. Dr. Spaulding is extremely helpful. He grades fairly and overall makes the class entertaining and fun. Definitely take his class

A great professor. Took Dr. Tim for a texts in time class about the 70s. Was very interested in the subject. You need to read the book or essays before coming to class. Class is hard, you will have to work hard for an A, but it's well worth it! Dr. Tim is very intelligent and open to your opinions, something not many professors care about.
