This guy is the worst teacher at UM. He rambles on about nonsense and marks you down an entire letter grade if u miss one class with no exceptions. He's rude to all his students and yells whenever anybody asks him a question.

I've taken two classes with Dr. Shapiro, all I can say is I wouldn't take his classes if I didn't have to. He's arrogant and fills his classes with lectures where he just tries to show off that he's smarter than everyone. It's been an easy A , but I don't care for his condescending demeanor.

He encourages you to participate but when you do he will fight with you to the end of the class why he is right and why you are wrong, even if you were right (unless you say you love the Beatles). He knows a lot but a lot of people aren't fans of him. I think he just is closed minded but otherwise is knowledgable. Didn't learn much honestly

DO NOT TAKE A CLASS WITH THIS EVIL EVIL MAN!!!!!! The content is cool but he is the nastiest teacher Ive ever had. Hes rude, hes mean, he puts you down and makes you feel stupid. Basically laughs at you when you ask questions and thinks hes the smartest man on the planet. I would rather leave college then have him again.

He's rude, doesn't seem to care about anything u think, constantly interrupts, and thinks WAY too highly of himself. He does NOT know how to create a plan for ur college career, so try ur best to get a new adviser if ur in Honors. Class is boring, he just talks. Don't try to go to the bathroom or pull out ur phone or he'll throw a fit. Essay tests

Shapiro knows what he's talking about. He lectures A LOT, but he has so much experience in the media industry and incorporates so many of his personal examples into his lectures so, if you care at all about the subject matter, his lectures aren't bad. He cares so much about his students and although he is intimidating he's actually the nicest guy.

Your purpose as shaprio's student is to sit there and attempt to absorb his rambling. Your questions are automatically irrelevant, so don't bother asking any. Being knowledgable about a subject isn't an excuse for being an awful educator. His expectations are high, not clearly defined, and there's little benefit in attempting to meet them

He definitely loves to tell you all about what he knows and thinks, and doesn't like to listen to what students know and think, but everything he says is really insightful. He has tons of experience, and is overall a great professor. Just get ready to listen.

The class is ridiculously boring and he spends the whole hour lecturing. The essays are graded very harshly. I love English and writing and I hardly ever got A's on the test even though I got A's consistently in my literature courses. Projects are time consuming/wasting.

The class is boring and he takes himself too seriously. It's just an hour of him lecturing you on the history of media. Also, you have to be a good writer because all the exams are essays and are graded subjectively. The man himself is helpful but I didn't like the class.

The class is very hands-on and Shapiro is very honest with his comments and critiques. Don't be late, even by a minute. I like that he uses novels rather than textbooks. He is incredibly knowledgeable of the subject matter as well as the entire industry.

He rarely teaches CEM 301 but he was good. 3 written exams and an easy survey project. Written exams were long and tedious but fair-all the material was from his lectures-none from the book. The best word to describe him is "abrasive" but he likes to teach and he likes office visits. Don't be late and don't have a cell ring. Take good notes.

great teacher and easy class. he has a ton of info from the actual industry, not just textbooks. projects are a little vague and take some time but they're not rocket science. just go to class and take notes and you'll be fine. the only quiz is at the beginning of the semester and it's mostly repeated material from CEM 102.

Although Shapiro does think very highly of himself, he is a good teacher. He has lots of experience in the TV industry and knows what he's talking about. Always willing to meet with students. The only thing is that the assignments are EXTREMELY time consuming and can be pretty difficult if you don't have lots of background info on the subject area.

He's a very good guy. He knows a lot about the business and relays that information to you. The projects he gives you make you think and take some time to do but you learn a lot from them.
