Caren is the nicest lady and is always open to go over tests or any material from lecture. Her section of the course is more straight forward but she does focus on key words on answers for tests. Her final was very fair and had a good grade breakdown. Focus on what she says in class even if she's sometimes scattered, also read the textbook online.

Caren was a good prof and always tried to add excitement to her content of the course. After a nightmare first half of Biochem with Doug Briant, her tests were fair as there was a mix memorization questions and applied. She is funny and quirky and really made the final and midterm less stressful.

Biochem 299 was a difficult course to say the least but Helbing did a good job of explaining main concepts.

Caren was alright but really people, avoid this class at all costs! It was a program requirement for me but this class is like a nightmare come to life. If it is a program requirement for you, take BIOC 300A instead!! I have been told that class is way easier and half of the material that you have to learn in 299!!

Quirkyness was ok, but she studders and repeats words and uses filler words for days. Her section of the course was terribly boring. Her notes are poorly aligned with text and disorganized. Overall 3.5/10. Definitely needs a lot of work to be a sub-par prof.

I don't know what the hell everyone else is talking about, saying things about how bad of a teacher she is... Her part of the course contains more material and she simply doesn't have time to teach it all perfectly. Simple as that. Take some initiative in learning the material yourself without being coddled along and you'll do well.

I was frightened going into the class, but she was actually excellent and very fair. Midterms were tricky but she was fair with how she scaled things and how many bonus marks she gave out. She is a good lecturer as well. Make sure you get on top of the material from day one and you will do fine!

You have to work hard to get a decent mark. Covers a lot of info and at times seems like she goes too fast. Strongly recommend to go to her office hours and ask her questions. She gives tips about what to expect, write them down.Approach material from a variety of angles. Use her notes as a guide and text for clarification. Got A+ on her part.

Honestly she wasn't that bad, she wasn't good but she wasn't bad. She isn't that helpful in lecture but the textbook makes up for it so use that as your primary source for info and use her slides as a guide on what to focus on. Do this and you'll do fine.

I was scared taking this course at first but she was approachable and fair.Took the time to answer my questions and help me understand the course material. I used her study guides and did the assigned questions and did OK. Had good sense of humor and interesting lectures. Made biochem relavent. Highly recommend.

Test 1,2 with Dr. Nelson got over 95% on both. Test 3 - half her material, half his.. got 70% but all the wrong stuff was her material. Final exam pretty sure I am going to fail. DO NOT be fooled by doing well in 1st half, when she comes along and you realize how awful it is, it is TOO LATE to drop. It is not the material, the teaching is bad

Disorganized:jumps all over textbooks (including ones not assigned for class),jumps all over her own useless slides, incoherent, impossible to follow in class, which would be fine if she followed the text, but much of lecture is not in the text.No clear guidelines as to expectations,Dr.Nelson way better. Take bioc300a if u can its WAY easier

She's the worst teacher, skips over hard material and talks about useless jokes that aren't funny, she expects lots of memorization without going into detail

One of the worst teachers I've ever had. Atrocious notes. The classes powerpoint notes contain very few diagrams, which she expects you to copy out into her notes. So, she wants you to follow along with the textbook as you read her notes...sounds reasonable, except that her notes jump around from chapter to chapter, section to section. Frustrating.

HARD tests! The tutorial was not very helpful and not worth any marks; the grade was all tests. I studied for 2 weeks for the second midterm and failed by 1 question :/ Definitely read the chapters asap after/before each class. Do all questions in the text and on the textbook website! The review session before the final was actually really helpful.

Failed this class for sure! When asked what about how well we need to the material, she answered "Know it all" They go through 36 Chapters in this Course! Going to take it somewhere else. This is a course for Non majors! Avoid at all costs. I used the textbook almost exclusively and her questions were still too hard.
