Kim is the best professor Western has to offer! A kind and lovely woman with big brains. She explains concepts well, reiterates if need be, and is always looking to support her students. Would 100% recommend taking a course with Kim.

While she is very caring and compassionate towards students, lectures were often confusing, as were her posted slides. Sometimes we would bounce around between concepts and often we didn't finish the lecture within the allotted time. She does truly have a passion for many of the topics we covered in class. Study the readings and you will be fine.

Kim was very generous with her time and made herself personally involved with me when I was sick and missing deadlines. While there were many readings, I found I was able to get through with some past understating of social politics, attendance in lectures, and asking lots of questions. Lectures are clear and relevant, Exam held no surprises.

Extremely nice and caring woman. She is so understanding of any problems you are having and tries her best to make things work for you. Explains all projects many times in class and is open for questions. Good material however sometimes a bit unclear or all over the place. Definitely recommend going to tutorial. I found exams tricky.

Not the greatest professor overall. She is very dedicated and cares a lot about teaching but her explanations are all over the place and weren't the most clear. Assignments are relatively easy but you really can't do your essay the night before (or day of!! lmao) and expect a great grade. The TAs made up for the lack of excellence in the prof.

This course was very interesting. It taught me how to critically think and improved my essay writing skills. Kim is very sweet but her lectures can be hard to understand so you NEED to go to the tutorials it helped me a lot. Also, if you are in health science first year this course complements the program very well.

I love Kim as a person and she is the most approachable professor I've ever had. She has an immense background in women's studies, and is eager to help anyone amidst her massive student base. I understand the criticism that her classes are unorganized; you have to be in class to get what she's saying, but it's because the concepts are very dense.

She is so unorganized, lectures are boring and all over the place. I found myself always struggling to pay attention, no matter how hard I tried. She is very sweet and encourages her students to do well but I found her lack of organization to be absolutely terrible.

Kim is sweet, passionate about what she teaches and does everything she can to ensure her students succeed. Follow her instructions and you will do fine in her course. On the other hand, her lectures are all over the place and her slides are disorganized and full of gibberish. Make sure you go to tutorials so you understand what her lectures mean.

Kim is my favourite prof at Western and I try to catch every word of her lectures. She is so eloquant its almost scary! I changed my major because of her and I haven't looked back. I'm surprised at how much I love the theory class.

From my experience, Kim is a fantastic person but a mediocre professor. Yes she's very welcoming and kind but none of her lectures make any sense - she presents unintelligible metaphors and then just moves on. She is unable to use colloquial terms, my word-for-word notes are gibberish. Would recommend for simpler courses only - heard 1020 is okay.

This course totally changed my perspective on life and Kim's lectures were so engaging and I never got bored in class, despite 2 hour lectures. She is so passionate about the material she teaches and that makes me love her class even more. She's so kind, sweet, and helpful and always wants to help her students. 100% RECOMMEND THIS COURSE!!

Absolutely love Professor Verwaayan! She is so sweet and welcoming... she makes the sometimes hostile environment of a Women's Studies class so much warmer. She's definitely a little scattered but she'll always get her points across regardless. Take a class with Kim if you can!

She is a very standard professor; not great, but not bad. She is very upbeat and enthusiastic and always takes into consideration peoples views. A little scatter-brained at times, but it wastes lecture time so its not that bad. A good person but a mediocre prof.

Kim is my favourite teacher ever. She inspired me to switch into women studies and I have not looked back. Her lectures are fun and engaging, the material is easy to grasp and if it's a little complex Kim breaks it down in such a relieving way. Great at facilitating discussion and encouraging participation by creating a comfortable space.

Nice lady, you can tell she means well. She goes into detail on everything and because of this she doesn't give you a good idea of what to study or what is the most important. Hard to pass her exams so make sure you ace the essays and you'll be fine. Lost interest in women's studies after taking this course.
