The homework format will get you points taken off without ever making a mathematical error and getting the correct answer while showing work. Regularly made grading mistakes that she refused to fix on the basis that they were negligible towards your grade. Imagine my comments on that when I received an 89.999, yes she posted to the third decimal:)

Seems to hate teaching and assigns an insane amount of homework. Doesn't explain things super well and seems to skip steps vs. getting mad about students skipping steps at random. Math isn't a spectator sport, so homework is needed, but seriously- hours worth of homework with minimal actual teaching.

She does not want to teach--She has told the class this. She has left the class to go to job interviews twice--She canceled class the first time and the second time she left review worksheets (that the class had already gone over) to a fellow student (No sub or TA--a student who was also taking the class) for FIVE classes, just before finals.

There is so much homework, my hand is cramped. Formatting is more important to her than your actual work. Like, I lost easily 50% of my pts because of formatting. I'd follow her instructions on formatting, but somehow, I did it wrong. Every class you get assigned at the very least 3 assignments with 5-20 problems each.

She had a very specific format and would mark whole questions off for slight errors. Had a lot of energy but didn't take the time to make sure all the students understood. My dad and brother also failed her class for the same reasons. Definitely wouldn't take again. Wish they told me beforehand!

Took her Calculus for Life Sciences class. On the first day she admitted that she had no education in biology. A few examples were taken from a life sciences textbook, but aside from that it might as well have been Calc 1. Her teaching method made everything way more confusing than it had to be, and her grading on format is excessively harsh.

I was one of the students who took her Calc 1 class. Everyone calls her crazy Kat. She grades hw like a test and your answers and work needs to be exactly how she wants you to write it or she won't give you credit. Hw every single class; if you don't do them, you won't pass her test which equals to failing her class.

Good at teaching, incredibly harsh grader. I would get every question right on a homework assignment and get a 75% because she found minor notation things to complain about.

I have never had such a mean instructor! She starts off the class telling us how we are going to fail it and she seems to try her hardest to crush our spirits by reminding us of this "fact" for the rest of the course. She doesn't even teach math - she just teaches formatting. Oh, and it isn't universal formatting - it's just the way she does it.

Lots of homework, took a lot of time. I went to get help a few days and she was very rude to me. She told the class that there was no such thing as test anxiety. More than half the class dropped the course because of the intensity level. The teacher knows what she is talking about but does not have people skills.

Kat Gustafson was rather unpleasant and rude. She assigned a great deal of homework, and was inflexible about due dates and formats. I dropped this class, along with many of the other students, after only a few class periods with her. I could tell it wasn't going to work out.

Kat Gustafson was unhelpful and unpleasant. On the first day of class she mentioned that she "knew nothing about biology", which was great considering the class was for life science students. I dropped the class, along with many other students because I knew it wasn't going to work out.

I would recommend another teacher. She will mark anything wrong that does not follow a strict format. She does not know how to teach, she blames others when the whole class misses a problem.

Course was tough but my math is pretty marginal. She provides outlines of all notes at the beginning of chaps. Her outlines let me spend time listening to instruction instead of scribbling notes. Outlines were clear. Not too much homework but I needed to practice on lots of textbook probs. She only tested on class notes & assigned problems.

I loved taking classes from Kat. I felt like I was really learning how to do Math. It was really hard and very time intensive. But that helped me learn the subject matter. I like the no calculator kick! Great teacher, be prepared to do a lot of practice beyond what you are assigned to do well. If you practice you'll do well.
