As an online teacher, he's not great. Lectures have been incredibly boring - I've been using the book and homework to teach myself. The tests were open-notes, but I didn't have enough time to finish. I feel like I understand the concepts well, but it doesn't translate to the exams.

Dr. Dou is one of the most genuine people I have ever met. I took him for an honors class, so I'm not sure how tough his math classes are. I definitely recommend taking him. He made every single class interesting, and he put more effort into crafting our lectures than any professor I have ever had.

Hard to understand what material you really need to know and what you don't. He does not let you know at all what to expect for tests and will throw random questions on the test that he did not even cover in class. Didn't even grade the final in my class and just assigned everyone a random grade.

He is really patient with all students. He doesn't gives aways extra credit, but he curves the exam grades by a lot. my first exam was a 10 points curve, then 8 points for the second time. there were no curve for the last exam, but he let us fix the mistakes and gives half credit back which turned my grade from 71 to 86. Not hard to get at least B.

I also agree that the the scathing review below is unjustified and extreme. As someone mentioned, the class material is difficult, but newsflash: college classes are supposed to challenge you. Dr. Dou is beyond generous with grades to accommodate the difficult material, is kind, approachable & personally offers his help to every single student.

The absolute worst. Homework's aren't that hard. Gives absolutely no review and no information about the tests, so be prepared to go into the test having no idea what to expect. Jumps around in lecture, hard to know what is and isn't important. Prompts for the essays are kind of confusing. On the plus side, he wants you do to well and tries to help

Dr. Dou is very dull. He tries to be funny, so that's amusing, but the class drags on like torture. He's very interested in the material though and cares about your understanding. His grading criteria is very vague for papers, and he doesn't tell you whatwhen you should be reading until it's too late. "Required" books we didn't use. Final is HARD!

Took him for my Abstract Algebra class. Really entertaining, good lecturer. His accent is heavy but easy to understand. He does go fast but has no problem slowing down if you ask. Tests were straightforward, though he doesn't give a review sheet. Homeworks were very reasonable

Homework everyday, lots of quizzes, good english but sometime doesn't make sense. On exams, even if you get the right answer he takes off for not showing EVERY step.

First, his English is easy to understand. After lectures, read the section that was lectured. It will be easier to apply what he lectures after you read. He is very helpful after class and during his office hours. He is also very understanding of personal situations if you talk to him. He expects you to show that you understand your work on exams.

I have taken calculus before so it was really easy for me. But you have to go to class if you want an A cause he moves quickly. If you study with people and review everything its easy,

Took him for Applied Calc - not a bad teacher at all. Takes a little while to get used to him at first, he's kind of a funny guy, but all in all he's very understanding and accommodating for every student. Tests are OK if you study, and he only collects homework at the end of the week. Very easy A if you see him outside of class.

THis guy is plain rediculous. Takes up your homework on friday to give you a quiz over it on Monday so you have nothing to review. ABsolutely rediculous! I am good at math normally, but this cook is absolutely worthless. Impossible to understand because his accent is so heavily chinese accent so he practically speaks chinese. Acts like he care

Like said before, this guy expects you to know everything before you even sign up for the class. His office hours are horrible, and tests are nowhere close to what he tells you to study. Not to mention he is hard to understand and just flies through everything.

DO NOT take calculus from Dou unless you plan on attending EVERY single class, you've already learned the material, and you enjoy sitting through the most confusing and boring hour and twenty minutes of your life. Twice a week. I got a D in the class, but I got an A+ in precal the previous semester and i've taken calculus in high school.take RITTBY

all the very good review are for PRECAL. For calculus, his class is a lot harder. The homework is very basic and simple, but the tests are a lot harder and the problems more complex. Try to get copies of old tests from people and practice/study

If you are not a math genius then do not take this class. His tests are absolutely ridiculous and even my friends who took AP calculus in high school (and made A's) are making C's or failing. He has horrible office hours so getting help is close to impossible. I don't know why people give him good reviews, this class was a horrible mistake.

Very good teacher. Happy to answer questions & loves class participation. Tests are exactly like study guide, except with some numeric changes. Do the homework and complete the study guide and you will do great in this class.
