He marked VERY hard for a 1000 level course and offered little to no help for improvement and no explanation for why such low grades were being given. He also has a stutter which can be very distracting.

Alward has an awesome personality! His class is hard; my papers never received A's which was a little sad. He is always willing to help you out though if you make the time to go see him. He makes class interesting even though the content is confusing and doesn't make the most sense sometimes.

Alward is hilarious because he is not hilarious. Beware the "tumbleweed joke" which he believes is quite legendary. I bombed his class but still enjoyed it. He's organized and emphasizes clarity. I didn't dig his marking and often did poorly when I felt I'd done well; if you suck at Philosophy, he probably can't make you good. Easy final though.

Makes a subject that can be intimidating very accessible. Classes are step by step. Quizzes every 2 weeks help master material before moving on to new stuff. There is never 'too big a bite'. Stay organized and do a little every day. Participate. A-1!

He was pretty decent as prof's go. His notes are all posted on the website, he kinda just reads through them and makes it a little easier to understand stuff in his lectures. For the papers, he's really good because he'll let you hand it in a week early and proof it for you and tell you what to fix.

Pretty lame teacher. Very dull. Repeated the same jokes over and over and over. His beginning the class phrase is, "Okay, why don't we get started." Every single class.

he is awesome! best prof i have had. he is funny and really in to the topics. he keeps you focused on the class and not think about lunch or the weekend, which also makes the class fly by. he is pretty easy marker if you at least get the main idea of what your talking about in your essays. very much recommended

Alward is awesome! He makes a very boring class interesting and his quirkiness makes it fun. Alot of open class discussion helps you understand the concepts and evaluate them for yourself. Overall, if you're going to take Phil 1000, take it from Alward. He'll rock your world!

A great prof. Definitely the sort of guy who should be teaching philosophy because he does it so damn well. Papers and exams are challenging, especially if you want the A, however he provides more than enough help and guidance. He helps make undergrad exactly what it needs to be, academically, socially, and intellectually - if you let him.

He explains things to the max and will go over it again if you need. He loves dicussions and wants you to participate. The questions given before exams are very helpful and his notes on-line rock. I would have another class with him in the future.
