Condescending. Every single time I approached him for help, I would leave his office feeling as though I'm not worthy of being in his class.

I was nervous at first because my friend didn't like him. But he was one of my favourite teachers. Very knowledgable, enthusiastic, and he does have a sense of humour if your pay attention. And his test aren't too challenging, pretty fair.

He is a great professor. He gives you all the notes you need to succeed, you jsut have to put in your share of the work. If you can do that, then the course will be rewarding too. He is extremely passionate about his work and yes he is very busy, but he is always willing to help you so long as you help yourself first.

Never been one-on-one, but from what I heard he is condescending. But other than that, I think he is a great prof in terms of notes and clarity. He planned the midterm around the labs and everything. Attend classes, very work hard just like any other course and you should be fine. Textbook used now is horrible though, *cough* Fillion *cough*

You will often hear him say that you can go by his office anytime to ask him a question, and he makes it sound like it is okay to approach him anytime. BEWARE: I went to ask him a question to do with his assignment, and he spent 10 mins putting me down (and over stuff like nomenclature). And I really liked him before hand too, whats his problem?

Yeah, like other posters said, run far far away. If you can avoid a spending 5 min of your time with this guy, avoid him, he's miserable & you will be too. Take this class with another prof another semester, and as anyone in C2 will tell you, don't waste your summer/Chem494/work-term or if you're stupid enough, your master's, working for him. Run!!

This is the type of prof that gives off the impression "organic chemistry is memorization". He is clear and organized in his teaching, but it lacks in-depth. He will show things and expect you to memorize them, because all his exam questions are pretty much the same as examples in his notes. You won't get to think but you'll get easy marks.

Comment:
This prof does not treat people with respect and this sort behaviour is extremely arrogant. It is sad that someone would use their status and authority to put down those who are looking to him for guidance. It's understandabe that profs are busy (and are sometimes socially inept), but there's no excuse for such a lack of empathy as he displays.

I can see why most people don't like him. If you do well in his class he is helpful, but if you are doing poorly he thinks your not worth his time. Aside from personality his teaching style is very straightforward and clear.

His expectations were way too high; he said the midterm would be a gimme. But doing a solid phase peptide synthessis of 14 AA's with 2 internal cyclications is more like please Gimme marks so I don't fail. IF YOU END UP AS A GRAD STUDENT AT GWC2 AVOID HIM!

These students are wrong. I was actually in his lab and he is worse than they described him. He’s so unreasonable, thinks too high of himself and loves to put people down and make them feel worthless. Do not take his class or do anything with him. I used to think that he was just different, now I know he is just an a**.
