Class is 100% dependent on lecture notes. You have to record almost every single word he says or you wont have all of the info for the tests. The exams go over very particular ideas that he talks about once. I created a Quizlet for this exact class if you search up the class name that roughly cover the subjects. Would not recommend, A student.

This class has been the hardest class I have taken so far at Mott. IT wasn't exactly what I expected it to be, but you can tell that he loves the subject he is teaching and that makes a big difference. Be sure to study and though he says it isn't required, it would be beneficial to read the chapters suggested in the book.

His class was all lectures. You have to write down everything he says, and his exams are very hard. I studied for multiple hours and I still got D's, keep in mind I am a 4.0 student. It is not what I thought the class would be about, it is about the history of astronomy and who discovered what. You should know astronomy very well before you take it

His class is a nightmare, everything he teaches you dont need to know. But everything he says 1 time write that down! Its gunna be on the test! His review covers 10% of whats on the test even though he says at the end of his review thats everything on the test. His hand writing is awful and labs good luck figuring it out yourself.

I think he forgets what he teaches( constantly repeats same info). I came into class smiling and he got upset in front of the entire class. I went to an astronomer to ask a few questions and he said the class I was taking was not an entry level astronomy class. I recorded his lectures and still had a hard time with his test.

I really enjoyed Mr. Maguire's lectures. The only homework for the class is reading the textbook, which you don't really need if you take good notes. All the information for the tests is in his lectures. You may find this class difficult if you have trouble memorizing things. I just memorized my notes. Make sure you don't miss a lab.

Maguire was a good professor. His classes were all lecture, reading the text book helps but is not strictly necessary. If you take good notes and pay attention you will do just fine. He spent time before every test to go over what you were expected to know. He used anecdotal stories to connect the subject to life. The lab procedures were clear.

This was the WORST class I have taken EVER in history of my 4 yrs in college. The professor was not clear about what was being tested on. TESTS were HARD and never consistent. He seemed to get joy out of failing people. I dropped the class in the last week, so I didn't mess up my GPA. HORRIBLE class unless you are a Physics major.

Do not take him if you can help it, he spends most of the class with his back to the class and lectures. If he's not doing that, he's sharing his life stories that barely relate to the class. The only reason to have the book is to teach yourself, he only uses it for homework that isn't graded anyways.

Very knowledgeable in the subject he teaches. Lectures and shows you pictures, is not very clear about what you need to know. During labs, I felt like I was bothering him if I asked him a question. Tests are hard.

Maguire is an old-school teacher. Is very knowledgeable about the area he is teaching is. Creates own lecture and does not follow the book. Explains concepts in a very easy to follow manner, and teaches everything that is on the exams. Do not miss the class at all, or else you will most likely lose a letter grade on test. Have taken him twice

Really boiled down the book into the need-to-know basics of physics. Allows formula sheets and had extra credit on almost every test. The reality is if you didn't get at least a 3.5 in this course you're either too lazy, dumb (or both), for college. Mr. Maguire was very knowledgeable and explains everything about as simply as possible.

You must take notes. Mine are comprehensive but still find tests difficult. Not affecting my enjoyment of the class. He is very knowledgeable, willing to answer questions, but moves through material quickly. If you sleep, you're screwed. And for the love of God, don't yawn in class!

Do not miss a class or you will fall behind! He doesn't use the textbook, everything you need to know for tests are in his lectures. Taking notes, however, was a joke because his lectures are so scattered, that I felt that I didn't get enough information to study with. You also need a strong background in Mathematics, which he doesn't tell you.

This teacher was a good one. He taught all the material needed to pass the test with a 100%. I didn't get the book and still got a 4.0 in the class. As long as you pay attention, don't yawn, he really hates it. You will learn alot and do well if you study your notes and know your minerals for lab!

I loved this class and I learned a lot, but whether if it was his tests or his labs or whatever, I didn't do too well. I'm not sure why because I felt like I knew the material and studied well but I still passed regardless. You need to show up to pass and labs are rather difficult, but if you love space, you should be able to tough it out.

If you don't want to learn, don't take this class. He gives a lot of information so for some it may be overwhelming. As long as you pay attention you'll ace the class. I don't understand why people say he treats students like idiots when they ask question, I though he was very helpful, but I can see his personality being taken the wrong way.
