Professor Chen is by far one of the best teachers at WMU. He has done wonders for the CIS department and I wish he taught all of the classes because they need more caring professors like him. His class was challenging but he really took the time to explain things in a way that every could understand and would go in to further detail if anyone asked

Good professor, probably best in the CIS department. A hands-on approach to learning. Willing to teach students who are struggling. Very knowledgeable and willing to help. Books not needed but can be helpful

Dr. Chen is a great professor. He'd be perfect if he didn't have an accent but you get used to it. Dr. Chen has a remarkable and effective teaching method that I wish others in the department would adopt. He's a very smart guy and does a good job of explaining (and restating) complicated things in a simple manner that is easy to understand.

I didn't like Dr. Chen at first because of the accent but he really grew on me because his teaching style is very proficient. He does a good job of explaining difficult concepts. He requires you to actually know and grasp the material to get a good grade. That's nice because you actually have to learn, not just regurgitate info on a test.

Chen is an amazing professor. My definition of an amazing prof is one that truly cares about the students success in the course, and he does just that. He has taught for many years and knows what he's talking about. I was expecting to do poorly in Data Mining, but I'm easily pulling an A in the course. 10/10 recommend Chen

Professor Chen is the best professor Western has to offer for the CIS department. Personally, he is one of my favorite professors of all time. He explains everything clearly, and more than once if need be. He genuinely cares about his students and wants them to succeed. He is an entertaining speaker, and will always make sure everyone understands.

Although sometimes I wondered how the software we were using would actually relate to my life, I think Chen cares about his students and that the analytical skills gained from this course were beneficial.

Pretty much the best professor of all time. Dr. Chen has a very engaging style of teaching... he'll go through lecture slides and examples, and then he'll have the students try the example. Assignments are lengthy, so don't wait until the day its due to start, but they are not difficult... getting an A is no problem if you put in the time.

He is a good teacher. If you do not understand programming, he breaks it down and makes it easier to just follow what he says. A little hard to understand him though.. I failed because of attendance, even though all my homework I would get an A on... But if you are a hard worker, you should do fine in this class.

Good Professor, sometimes hard to understand, but generally nice guy and very easy going and understanding of student's problems. This is a plus or a minus depending on your POV, but both times I had him we only made it about 50% of the way through the syllabus -- slow pace.. and depending on POV, over explains or explains "Just right" :)

Da Uah What -- We used to sit in class and count how many time he said each of those words. When he talks he randomly inserts them in his sentences in a very funny way. He said What 137 times in 45 minutes once. Easy grader, hard to pay attention.
