Comment:
He teaches introductory level CS and obscures course material with weird snake analogies. Hes very protective of the analogies and defends them against criticism vigorously. He treats anyone who asks questions like they are a lost cause who can never learn to code. He does know his stuff but cant teach efficiently especially to 1st time programmers

He's awful. Lectures don't make sense. He's mean and inconsiderate to students. The labs are always longer than the time allotted and you have to finish them at home.

Comment:
While he wants his students to do well and to understand concepts completely, Gallagher refuses to sacrifice theory for convenient explanations, harassing students and assistants for considering digestible formats. Doing well in his class requires your full attention in order to follow the path he has laid out for you, a convoluted one at best.

He recently took my interview for Teaching Assistant position. He insulted me like anything for the questions I answered incorrectly. I have been to so many interviews before but never been to such traumatic experience. He literally hurt my feelings to the core. From that experience I can figure out how that professor would treat his students .

Avoid him if you can, but if you don't, it's not the end of the world. It's easy to zone out unless you're sitting in the first row, so you really have to pay attention. Pay close attention to all his directions and follow along even if it doesn't seem to make sense. He's helpful if you ask questions, but otherwise he's pretty much incoherent.

I absolutely love this professor. A lot of students who dislike him mainly do so because of group mentality. He's actually a wonderful person, in and out of class.

If you like programming, this will be an excellent course. Gallagher does not hold your hand - he genuinely wants students to work through the concepts themselves and may come across as insensitive at times. Since I do love programming, I had a great time in this course, learned a lot about how to code in C, and got a summer job because of it.

His teaching style is unlike anything I've come across. He will "answer" your question with another question. He is helpful, however. I had no experience in programming and have learned a great deal from this man.

I learned absolutely nothing. In fact, I think he degrade mine and everybody else's knowledge. He uses borderline mentally challenged terms such as "Great snake in the sky" or "Snakey breakfast" and confuses the hell out of those who have never programmed. Would never take a class by him ever again.

At first it's really hard to follow Gallagher & his tests are difficult, but if you pay attention during the lecture, you'll do really well. Gallagher is super nice and helpful, especially if you take the time to ask serious questions and go to his office hours! He's very knowledgeable and a little 'quirky' in the computer-science sense.

Very good professor. Doesn't move too fast and explains whenever a student has questions. Has a bit of a dry sense of humor- some students think that he's being sarcastic and mean, but he's actually really nice and helpful. Don't be afraid to ask questions in class if you don't get something.

A- in the class. The curve definitely helped. He is often sarcastic, so you have to make sure you ask the right questions. Pay attention and don't sit in the back with your laptop open. Easy enough course.

Had him for OS in Fall 2012. Did not learn anything from him. The project isn't graded till after the final. We had no grades going into the withdraw period(midterm day before withdraw date). Did the first 5 chapters in 2 months, the last 3 chapters in 2 weeks and expects you to know it all. Ask a question and get a question back.

Took OS with him. Terrible professor. Can't teach at all. So disrespectful when communicating with you. He comes in late and then gives pop quizzes and laughs at the students who came in late and failed. I think he was once a drug addict a while ago. I got a good grade and still think he is TERRIBLE.

Too sarcastic. Cannot understand a single word of him. His jokes are not even funny. TA are much more helpful than the professor and any text book is way more helpful than this Gallagher.
