McBane is a great Prof! P Chem really isn't my thing but he was super helpful in and outside of class. I definitely recommend going to office hours and keeping up on the homework. Exams are hard but reflect the homework well. Study the homework and quizzes and you should be fine for exams!

Comment:
Prof. McBane makes CHM 102 so much harder than it needs to be. I took this class for a Gen. Ed. requirement and I put so much effort in the class for it to be just a 102 class. He goes into very complicated material that shouldnt belong in a 100-level class. He lets you use a cheat sheet of tests/quizzes but its still very challenging.

Comment:
As a person who usually despises chem, Prof McBane makes the class somewhat bearable. You can tell he's passionate about the content and knows a lot more than what he has to teach us, but he's more than happy to slow it down to explain something again. You need to buy the book for the online HW but most of the content is taught in class. Don't skip

Dr. McBane is the best professor you could have for pchem. His exams are tough, but if you do the problem sets and learn from the quizzes you will do well. He is ALWAYS ready to help when students have questions. He cares about whether the students learn or not and he's passionate about the material he teaches.

One of the best professors I have ever had at GVSU. I was bad at chemistry in high school, and I got an A- in his class. Tests are hard, but not as hard as some other professors' tests for this class. He is REALLY helpful during his office hours, so take advantage of them as much as possible. If taught EGR courses, I would take them with him.

Professor McBane is a good guy and he means well but he is just too smart and tends to teach material that is unrelated to the course and just flat out difficult to understand

This is the professor you want to have. He knows the material, and has examples from life experiences in this field. Material is chemistry, so it will naturally be tough, but the homework is helpful and he can clarify very effectively.

I almost cried when he told us he didn't teach 116. He's a really nice guy, funny too. Lecture can sometimes seem a bit repetitive, but it definately helped the material sink in. In discussion he was always very helpful. VERY smart man! He sometimes adds some random trivia or funny science jokes to lighten up lecture. Discussion board online helped

He is an amazing professor. Yes, the material is difficult, but if you are willing to try and go to him if you don't understand you should be fine. He is always willing to help. Once grades come around he's a pretty lenient guy. I wish he just taught more chemistry classes. I would recommend him to anyone!!

This class is so hard. He is very unapproachable and makes me feel like an idiot. Everything he says in lecture goes right over my head, and I always feel unprepared for exams. His average scores on the exams are always in the D to D- range, but he still doesn't curve.

Took CHM 116 Lab. The first couple of labs were a little rough, but once you get used to his expectations and the pace of the class, it gets easier. He presents the pre-lab lecture very clearly. He's a clear and nice guy.
