He has quizzes every day right in the first 5 minutes of class about the articles he asked you to read the day before. Usually they are long, convoluted articles. He only gives you around 2 minutes to finish writing down your answer. I would write down his opinions are towards the subject, or else he will give you bad grade for speaking your mind.

Very helpful when I needed it, he encourages you to speak to him during his office hours for clarity purposes and I suggest you take advantage. Do the readings and a B should be easy.

Terrible teacher. He never made sense. Automatically disliked me because I wore my Navy Uniform to class on Thursdays (uniform day). All in all terrible teacher. Oh and he doesn't even teach most of the class his TA's do and he has really sucky TA's.

Teacher was very supportive with me and my interpreting issues. He offered to help me build a case against the school if necessary, he's a lawyer hence the opinionated statements he can make occasionally. He explains concepts clearly, people fall asleep because it's so early but hey, the day starts whether if you're awake or not!

Overall the content to his lectures was good and he provided some thought provoking questions. Definitely agree that he is strictly left leaning and that you will get docked massive points for either not agreeing with him (even if you support your claim) or if you don't use exactly the right wording. Does not really allow for free thought.

Comment:
Definitely the most boring class I've ever taken. The way he presents the material is not conducive to a good learning environment. Half the class is always asleep. He also has a few very snooty TA's who think they run the world. I would not recommend this teacher to anyone. On a side note he sounds like the fat little friar from Princess Bride.

His lectures have interesting content but do not correlate with his teaching style. If your opinion is not the same as his then you're wrong, and may be zeroed out for it in class. There are daily quizzes, so do the readings and study for exams and it's an easy B.

This class is mainly based off class attendance and lecture quizzes before the class. (Which are usually T or F) Overall, I hated the material, it was very very boring. And Tuesday 8 a.m classes did'nt help much either. Id say its very easy to pass not, not as easy to get an A.

Comment:
Professor Mickelsen is the stereotype for college lectures. That said, he is pretty easy going, teaches very clearly and at a fair pace. The worst part about his class is the earliness. That combined with the dryness of the subject, and you are almost guaranteed to fall asleep in his class. Just accept it, its inevitable

BORING!!! ZZZzzz too early for me. Power points could use a face lift. He looks like Bill from Kill Bill, which is disturbing in my 8am sleep/awake limbo. Extremely funny when he shuts down stupid people with there holier than thou remarks! Truly understands the content and relates it well.

Interesting subject, but was presented with a far left bias. The class was way too liberal for my liking, and appeared to serve as a means to brainwash college freshman into being a lefty.

Do the homework and show up for the daily quizzes and pay attention in class, you'll do fine. Easy A if you can accomplish that. Real interesting class too, JCM not the most exciting lectures, but very informative. Real interesting stuff I would've never learned about media. Changes the way you see it all. Highly recommend taking this as core class

the content of the class is alright, but its pretty rough being there at 8am and letting an entire hour go by staring at an exhilarating power point in all black and white times new roman font and listening to a monotone voice...seems like a nice guy, just not what i would call an interesting teacher when 1/2 of the class is asleep all the time...
