Comment:
The tutorial quizzes are quite easy, and based off the textbook. However, the midterm and final exam are super hard by this prof. His notes aren't helpful as they're pretty much the textbook re-written, so there's not much of a point of going to the lectures.

Incredibly boring prof. Spent more time asleep in his class than awake. Very unclear. Bad lecturer. Not helpful.

Comment:
Clinically retarded. He clearly lectures first year engineering students under some sort of influence. Notes were written when he was half asleep, and he probably gets a kick out of not teaching and then testing students on things he didn't teach.

Comment:
Disrespectful to students who asks questions. VERY disorganized lectures. He was course coordinator and the whole course was a chaotic mess. Quizzes were on different topics from what we were told. They should replace anesthetics with this guy, cause OH BOY can he put you to sleep. Don't bother with the textbook because he doesn't teach to it.

Lectures are essentially an audio replay of his notes, word for word. His notes can be quite long and a confusing at times.

Horrible prof. He is very mono tone and his Lectures are very boring. You would be better off if you just don't go to lectures and read the text book. His tutorial quizzes are inconsistent with each other. some are incredibly hard, some are very easy. He made me hate chemistry.

Dr. Hinman is a very intelligent, professional, and good instructor. He provides office hours, and will help you if you seek help. He's very conservative, old-fashioned, and sometimes comes off rude. Does a good job explaining concepts, even though the material itself is dry. Gives a clear expectation of what's to come on tests. Curve is generous.

Comment:
Decent at explaining concepts but would sometimes have too few examples. The textbook provides a lot of examples but used different units than the testsformula sheet which was confusing at times. Obviously not happy with the way the class was run; had several disagreements with the textbook. His interest in teaching seemed to vary by unit.

His lectures consist of him just reading off a scanned page he wrote the day before (with tons of mistakes) and without really explaining anything. He is a very tough marker and both the midterm and final were extremely difficult!

Dr. Hinman is a pretty good professor, however this course is not easy. I felt the labs were very difficult. The consensus was that the test were pretty difficult with the average in the 50s. I did not like the way he did his notes as it was very difficult to follow and copy at the same time, there are no surprises if you study however.

Hinman's lecture was the highlight of my day. He taught at an appropriate pace and his lectures were interesting. He doesn't always write the usefulimportant information on the board, so be sure to take good notes.

His notes are really good to study from, but he doesn't explain them that well in class. Might be better off just reading the notes, doing practice problems, and going to office hours instead of attending class. He is funny. Textbook isn't needed much. Can get it from the library-any edition will do. And the lab is fun (no lab reports!!!)

Comment:
His lectures are pretty straight forward, although lots of notes. Textbook is definitely a great tool, but not a must. Labs are tough, tests are even tougher (50% avg). Not enough time is given for exams, making it stressful, but gives generous curve, since he doesn't like failing students. Generally likeable, makes jokes.

guys a genius but he's a useless prof who cant tell you why or why not. better to skip lectures and read the stuff yourself because you will not understand a thing. tests are ridiculously hard and you are given not nearly enough time to even finish. if this is not a required course DO NOT take this class. you will most definitely fail

Comment:
Dr. Hinman was a great lecturer - at no point in his lectures was I confused. Concepts were explained as clearly as they were in the textbook. As for the course itself CHEM 315 is a cakewalk compared to CHEM 311 including labs assignments and course content... if you''ve made it past CHEM 311 you will most likely do well in CHEM 315.
