I heard a lot of bad things about Professor Crump before taking this class. HOWEVER, he is an excellent teacher and one of my favorites from my time at Calvin. He is no harder than the rest of the Religion department. I learned an incredible amount from this class and would take another class with him again if I could.

Professor Crump was a difficult professor, but his lectures were very clear and interesting. He is very staid in his teaching methods and his tests required a great deal of preparation, but the class was rewarding.

Crump is a very, very tough teacher. For my section of Rel 121 all of the tests were just 2 essay questions that he graded very harshly. I put in a lot of time studying and took good notes but ended up with a B in the class. If you care about your GPA don't take this.

Although Professor Crump is a very hard grader, I still have respect for him. He has a deep passion for what he teaches and acts on his beliefs. He is also very intelligent. When asked what will be on the exam and how to study, his response was, "Know everything I have said in every lecture this year. I want it repeated back to me."

Crump is very passionate and knowledgeable about his subject and I really enjoyed and learned a lot in this class. I expected him to be way harder than he actually was. If you know the stuff, don't worry. Skim the readings if you have time, but they hardly factor into tests. Ask him to read a draft of your paper--he is willing to help.

He seems like a very knowledgable and experienced theologian, but a terrible professor. Tests were inconsistent and he is extremely unclear when grading things or correcting things. I do not advise taking anything with this prof you want to enjoy it!

Absolutely did not like his class or him as a professor. Cold, rude, and not helpful. Would make stupid remarks about how your life is all about studying and you shouldn't have relationships. Maybe he was joking, but it wasn't funny. Hard grader, told us we should know everything he said for the exam (no guide). Not recommended.

I thoroughly enjoyed Crump's class. He really knows his stuff and explains things really well. You have to know basically everything he lectures on for the test/exam, but the readings he assigns aren't worth doing. There's only a few MC questions on the test over like 500 pages of reading. Be prepared to write a lot really fast and learn a ton!

Crump is great professor. Tough? Definitely. But if you're willing to work hard you will do fine. I read all these comments and thought I would fail the class for sure...got an A on my first paper. He's a strong Christian man and takes it seriously. If you're willing to do the work & learn a lot about the Bible I recommend him for sure.

He is a professor who expects a lot from first year students. You must know every word that he says in class and take very good notes. Textbook is not used as much.

A great professor who loves to teach religion and shows a deep passion for it. HE is challenging and you will have to earn your grades and also very opinionated. If you want an easy "A", you will not get it because the tests and essays are the hardest things in the world.

Very Smart, Very opinionated. To get an A on the test you literally have to know every word he said in class and every word in the textbook (even though he didn't reference the textbook once all semester). You will definitely learn a lot and its a good class, just know that the tests and papers are super hard.

The class is not bad, you can sit through the class and understand what he is saying. However, his tests are impossible. I had all the content in the essay but got marked off because I didn't go into enough detail, which is hard to do when you have a time limit. If you need to worry about your GPA don't take this class with him!

Very little homework, everything comes down to the tests. And the amount of writing required on his essay portions would take double the time. His papers he grades with unreasonable expectations. I haven't found a single person in my class who got over a C.

I loved his classes, lecture was very interesting, i was able to stay engaged in the lecture even though it was a religion class for core. His tests were very hard and his papers were worse. I got one back that i got a C and his comments said my content was great but my grammar needed help - hello, its a religion class not a grammar class!!

Yes, Crump expects a lot from his students (maybe a little too much), but the class is interesting and if you work hard you'll do well. He's very engaged and lets the class know exactly what he wants. Word of advice: have him read over a draft of your papers before you do a finish copy. You'll be glad you did.

Lectures are fairly easy to get through, and the homework and essays are only moderately difficult. Understanding when it comes to questions and concerns. The tests, though, are BRUTAL. Even if you know your stuff, chances are you won't be able to even write enough to earn higher than a B.
